Intro If you have a Mustang Mk6 (Chassis S550) and you've wanted to mod your 6.5 door speakers, your choices might be limited. This may also work on the Mk7 (S650) but I have not had the opportunity to see how similar the doorcards are; attempt at your own risk.
The Metra 82-5605 turned out to be too tall for my choice of speakers (Infinity REF607CF). It would cause the speaker to run into the rear of the speaker grill and I did not want to hack up my doorcard. So I made my own adapter rings that will allow enough space for tall-sitting speakers like the REF607CF models to sit proper, operate proper and allow the install of a fastring so the sound is directed through the grill.
I only print in PETG but since this will be used in cars and obviously exposed to extreme temperatures, I personally wouldn't use anything less than PETG on the filament scale.
Instructions
- For printing, flip the ring onto it's face, it will require less supports.
- Mind the text on the backside, it is designed this way so your wire port is clocked ideal to the side it is to be installed on. For left side installation, simply mirror the print.
- Speaker can be installed directly using fasteners of choice or you can drill out the holes to add brass nutserts.
- Highly recommended this be printed as a solid. If you choose to do anything less than 100% infill, you need to understand that audio quality and overall rigidity could be negatively affected.
Extra info This is just V1 of this. As/if I iterate the design, I will share here. Hopefully this can help someone else who may have run into a similar problem as I have and doesn't want to spend a lot of money buying parts that may not work out. Cheers :)
