Highly Experimental Design
Okay, this is my most ambitious tile design yet, so I really hope it works. But the idea has been tickling my brain for some time now.
The basic idea of this design is that balls that enter through the left or right side will be trapped in place until a ball enters through the center, releasing any balls that are trapped.
The mechanism by which this works is the flipper in the center, which has arms blocking either side passage. With a spare ball placed in the cup of the flipper (you should probably secure it in place with glue or tape), these arms will remain raised - blocking those side passages. However, if a ball enters the center passage, it will drop into the high end of the flipper, tilting the flipper down far enough to escape through the tile, which unblocks the side passages.
I haven't yet printed this to test it out, but I really think it should work. I also spent a bit of time trying to design the flipper and tile to require as little supports as possible when printing.

Any update if this ones works? Looks very cool
Not sure if I've printed the new version, but it's still not holding the balls. I think it needs at least the full height of a ball. Another suggestion, make the counter weight snap into the holder with a small hole to force it out again. Like here https://thangs.com/designer/Michael%20P/3d-model/Remix%20of%20Hextraction%20Sozu%20Tile-876475?part=459ed43b-188f-4449-a71e-e9930a32d0b2
Very cool concept tho. :)
i have printed this and in testing the pins meant to stop the balls are too small but otherwise its a reallyh cool concept
Alright, I've uploaded a new version, with the pins extended by half a millimeter on both sides. As well as the holes in the tile, as it would be a pretty darn tight fit. Now that I said it out loud, half a millimeter doesn't sound like much...
Just a bit longer cause it was really close
I was worried about that. Do they need to be longer or taller?
Also, wow! You printed that fast.
Ooh that sounds cool, really curious to see if that works!
