**_Highly Experimental Design_**

Okay, this is my most ambitious tile design yet, so I really hope it works. But the idea has been tickling my brain for some time now.

The basic idea of this design is that balls that enter through the left or right side will be trapped in place **until** a ball enters through the center, releasing any balls that are trapped.

The mechanism by which this works is the flipper in the center, which has arms blocking either side passage. With a spare ball placed in the cup of the flipper (you should probably secure it in place with glue or tape), these arms will remain raised - blocking those side passages. However, if a ball enters the center passage, it will drop into the high end of the flipper, tilting the flipper down far enough to escape through the tile, which unblocks the side passages.

I haven't yet printed this to test it out, but I really think it should work. I also spent a bit of time trying to design the flipper and tile to require as little supports as possible when printing.

Hextraction Gatekeeper

This design is an attempt to create a temporary stop for marbles, such that the first marble that arrives gets "stuck" until another marble arrives and knocks it loose. I have no idea if it will work, so I made it as "hackable" as possible.

_Some assembly required. And a rubber band and some filament strips. _

The idea is to have a rubber band stretched across the top at just the right height to snag a marble and hold it loosely. Then the next marbles momentum will push it all the way through, and get captured itself.

The challenge is getting the right height and tension on the rubber band. To that end, this design supports tuning both height and tension in the following ways:

- height is set / adjusted by inserting multiple strips of filament (approx 1.5cm long) into the narrow slots on top.
- tension can be adjusted by wrapping the rubber band around different / multiple posts on the bottom (after passing through the wider slots that go all the way through the tile).
- in addition, the rubber band can cross the tile surface twice at the same height (spread out or layered over each other), or you can place some strips of filament between the two sides of the rubber band so only one of them comes in contact with the ball.

**_Again, this is completely untested, but I liked the idea of incorporating a rubber band in the mechanism, because those are easy to come by, and thought by publishing this, I might inspire others to think about utilizing such easily acquired materials (like... what can we do with paperclips?)._**

Place this tile low on the hextraction board, and watch as it travels up the board, infecting and replacing other tiles with itself.
But don't worry, once it reaches the top of the board, your team has tracked the contagion to its source and eliminated it (remove the tile from the board).

**Description**

Want a little mayhem in your game? Well, some Alien Abductions will do just that!

This tile adds an ambitious little alien to the game that abducts any ball that strays beneath it's UFO, and even takes the tile with it.
After some _gentle_ probing, the alien returns both ball and tile to the board... anywhere it wants, in any orientation, then releases the ball to continue on it's way.
Of course, to keep things interesting, the part of the alien must be filled by one of the active players opponents.

_An alternate ruleset would allow the active player to choose placement and orientation, but limit tile movement to a maximum distance of 1 slot away. But I couldn't figure out how to fit that on a printable rules card._

**Printing and Options**

I've revised this model (in version 4) to make everything a little easier to print.

- The super thin landing legs have been removed from the flying saucer, and instead there are heftier supports built into the tile base that the flying saucer sits on (with registration slots).
- An alternate flying saucer (along with matching tile cards) has been added. This flying saucer, while not in the traditional style, has been designed so that it can be printed without use of supports.
- There are two card options for each saucer option. One with the original text I wrote, and one that uses a more standardized language to match the guidelines for Hextraction.

**UNTESTED**
This special tile will teleport your ball to a semi-random tile!
When the ball enters this tile, the centerpiece should spin some (maybe a little, maybe a lot, rarely none at all). 
Once the spinner comes to rest, the arrow on the spinner indicates the direction in which the ball will be teleported (rounded to the hexagonal direction).
At this point, the ball is removed from the tile (if spinner is moved during this process, use original direction indicated) and placed anywhere into the **first** tile possible in the direction indicated. 
If not possible to insert into said tile without removing the tile from the board, move on to the next tile, etc, etc.
If no tiles in direction of arrow can accept the ball, it falls off the board ("through" the board, rather than off the side).

I stole the connection setup between the parts from Zack's Flip-Flop tile, so the assembly instructions are the same:

"Print one [Base] and one [Spinner], ideally in PETG or nylon. Insert an M3x8 or M3x10 screw in the flipper, drop an M3 washer onto the tile, align the peg on the flipper with the slot on the tile, and screw it down. Make sure the flipper spins loosely and freely - it might need a touch of grease."

_This tile is a crazy idea that may or may not work in actual gameplay. And since I haven't printed and tested it, it just might not work at all._

3 Additional Basic Tiles, expanding upon those shared by Zack.

K Tile - funnels all top input channels into either the left or right output channel (depending on orientation). Limited to two orientations.

yr Tile - smoothly directs top and one side input channel to the output channel on the same side, while the opposite side input channel gets directed to the center output channel. Limited to two orientations to work properly.

3E Tile - this tile is similar to the yr Tile, but is more forgiving in orientations, at the cost (benefit?) of being more chaotic. Instead of having one-way channels from the sides, this variant is mirrored vertically, so there are 4 possible orientations, though 2 are duplicates of the other two. However, this means that the "other side" input channel could potentially output to either middle or it's same side channel.

_Now includes versions compatible with Zack's Secret Tiles Cover (cover not included in my files, can be found in Zack's [files](https://thangs.com/designer/ZackFreedman/3d-model/Hextraction%20Secret%20Tiles-856513)) _

NOTE: I have not tested these at this time, but they are generated directly from Zack's basic models, so I think they should be pretty solid contenders. I still need to get my printer back in a working state so I can print out a board to play this game myself.
