Short Bony Basilisk - Articulated Snap-Flex Fidget (Tight Joints)

Emerging from the crypts and cursed castles, the Bony Basilisk is here to bewitch and bedazzle just in time for the spooky season! With its detailed skeletal structure, this bony behemoth is prepared to perch on your shelf as the haunting highlight of your Halloween assembly or stand sentinel, casting a bone-chilling shadow for your guests.  This ancient creature refuses to let the ghosts, ghouls, and dragons have all the fall-time fun on their own.

This articulated fidget toy integrates the Mimetics 3D "Snap-Flex" joint. This allows the Bony Basilisk to both move smoothly, mimicking the fluid motion of living creatures, AND stabilize in a firm pose, providing a premium fidgeting experience. Each **SNAP** will resonate as a symphony of satisfaction to your ears, confirming your masterful manipulations.

This Bony Basilisk is the third creation in a series of Snap-Flex models by Mimetics 3D, and it's available for free for a limited time.


**Tolerance:**
To accommodate different printer settings and filaments, I’m uploading 3 different tolerance levels for the Bone Snake to ensure that you get the best fitting, most satisfying “SNAP” with each of your prints.

This is the **Tight** tolerance model.  For the other tolerances, please check out the other versions of the model below:

**Print Settings:**
0.2mm Layer Height
3 Wall Loops
3 Top Shell Layers
No Supports, Print-In-Place at 100% scale.  Going any smaller may disable the Snap-Flex joint.

These tolerances are TIGHT and you'll likely have to snap each segment a few times before it's loose enough to snap/unsnap easily. I recommend you use regular PLA or PLA+. ABS might be even better, but I haven't tried it yet.

Silk PLA is a bit softer and may not click as nicely. I'd also be more concerned about silk PLA holding up to the wear and tear.
If you print this in resin, please let me know how it turns out. I imagine you would need a more flexible/less stiff resin for it to work appropriately.

Fidget Femur

Such a weird design. I have no other explanation.

This fidget femur uses a print-in-place ovoid joint to create and unique tactile movement. This joint type is stronger than the interlocking double ring joints used in many articulated designs, so this design is more suitable for use as a fidget or children’s toy.

Like a “ball and socket” joint, the oval-shaped ovoid from one segment is held in place by a similarly shaped socket in the neighbouring segment. Varying the relative dimensions of the ovoid and socket allows for precise control of the movement between each segment. In this design, lateral side-to-side movement is maximized, but rotation and up/down movement is slightly restricted. 
You may get some small adhesions between segments. Simply apply a bit of force to move the joint the first time, and it will be fine after that.

Happy Halloween Articulating Spine

This print-in-place “Happy Halloween” spine is fun to print and feels really weird to hold and move.

The spine must be printed as oriented, with the spinous processes point up. Changing the orientation of the file will result in improper printing of the inner ball joint between adjacent vertebrae.
The transverse processes that stick out sideways do not need support. Therefore, you only need to support the base of the vertebral bodies and the top loop. 
You’ll have to plan your support well in order to adequately support the curved bottom surface of the vertebral body. A suggested technique using Cura is to raise the object of the build plate by 3mm, and then add tree supports underneath. Switch “Support distance priority” to “xy overrides z” and tighten up the “xy support distance” to 0.1mm. 
After printing there will be some small adhesions on the inside ball joint and in the facet joints. Just do some gentle spinal mobilization and they will release and move freely. Be sure to let your print fully cool first! If the plastic is still soft, the connector may break when you try to move it.
