Cube Holder: Kinetic Desk Sculpture
A satisfying desk toy and art piece. Spin the cube to see mesmerizing patterns appear.
Print/Assembly Instructions:
- Print a base, your choice of arm, and your choice of object to display
- Press the arm into the base (it's designed to be a tight fit so no glue is needed)
- Insert the object into the arms corner to corner
- Gently spin the object (blowing on the edge is a good way to keep it spinning)
- Enjoy!
The "flip panels" can be printed without support. But the other 3 cube objects can be very tricky. So print with support and slower speed. The Menger sponge prints best at an angle, just make sure to support the outer walls.
Custom Objects/Remixes: This model is quite simply a cube holder, so any cube with side lengths of 56mm should work fine. For other objects make sure the distance from point to point is 96-97mm.
This can be scaled up or down and will still work fine. The only issue is the “flip panels” might not spin at smaller scales.
Happy Printing!
