DIY Air Conditioner - "WinterWind"
Could you use a WinterWind this Summer? Don't want to spend $200+ on that name brand cooler which rhymes with SpicyBees? Turn any plastic ice chest into a cheap personal air conditioner and bring some comfort to that stuffy corner of your office or workbench.
You'll need an ice chest, a CPU cooler with 240mm radiator & 2 120mm fans, a submersible pump (most built in AIO pumps will not work submerged) and a power supply for the pump and fans. The duct fits over 2 fans mounted on a standard CPU cooler radiator and attaches to a 4“ hose to direct airflow. Assembly is pretty self-explanatory. You'll need to cut the lid in a manner which allows you to mount the radiator to the inner side of the lid, the hardware doesn't bolt through the duct itself but the cooler lid. Cut some air intake holes toto allow airflow into the cooler.
Then simply fill the chest with cold water and ice/ice packs and commence chilling!
The fans are original from the Corsair cooler, and a cheap aquarium pump (often found in decorative fountains) attached to the radiator pumps chilled water through the radiator which acts as a heat exchanger in this application. The pump & fans are wired in parallel to the speed controller. I recommend filling the hollow spaces in the lid with insulating spray foam.
