Wacom Pen Holder, Sci-Fi Mechanical Arm
This decorative item is used for holding graphics tablet pens, like Wacom pens, so it's a perfect fit for any digital artists who are into science fiction.
The fingers are posed to wrap around a Wacom pen, which are slightly more girthy than normal pens and pencils, so the latter may not be compatible directly. However, different kinds of silicone and foam grips for pens and pencils can be bought, which will add thickness to the pens. I recommend the Omni Grip by Chrome Cherry, available on Amazon.
The mechanical arm belongs to a game character I am currently working on. I decided to spend some time on a side project, and wanted to make myself a physical keepsake related to the project. I also wanted it to serve a purpose, other than looking nice, and that gave me the idea of the Wacom pen holder.
The correct print dimensions are: 74.69 × 77.94 × 99.78 mm
The printability of the model has been tested using four different materials:
High-Detail Resin, SLA (Photos of the light gray plastic print) *316L Stainless Steel, SLM / DMLS (Photos of the dark glossy metal print) *Aluminum, SLM / DMLS (Photos of the light matte metal print) **Nylon PA12, SLS (Photos of the black plastic print)
*The surface details and finish of the metal prints are highly dependent on the quality control of the finishing process.
**I do not recommend Nylon. It will print, but the quality of the details is poor, and the fingers tend to bend and break easily, so it is unlikely to be able to hold the pen.
