The Complete Dread Trove (ACOTAR)

[Update 29 September 2024] Uploaded a new version of the Harp (It should be called Harp NEW 25.9.3mf) - this new version has more supports than the previous one, for those who still have issues with the wobbly 'strings'. I test printed this and my harp came out great so hopefully that's the same for you!

[Original Post] Alright. Here it is. The Dread Trove. Finished.

After a painstaking amount of tweaking, adjusting and experimenting, I am finally satisfied with my Dread Trove collection.

So, for fans of ACOTAR - have so much fun with this!

I've already previously uploaded the mask, that hasn't changed and the settings for it have been perfect. The Crown and the Harp had to undergo A LOT of adjusting because of how they were designed (yes, I can fully blame... me. They're my designs. I did this to myself).

Anyway.

I've attached the mask, the harp and the crown - all individually, but ALSO a 3-in-one plate that allows you to print all of them at one time. They just about fit on a Bambu Lab P1S plate, so if you have anything smaller, you'll need to print the individual files.

The settings. This is pretty important. Mostly because of the supports - as much as I hate using supports, they were necessary this time :(

The 3MF files will have settings that I have personally have successes with - see images. However, if you have your own settings you prefer, please feel free to use them. The Crown and the Mask aren't too complicated - I only have the following pretty important recommendation for the harp:

THE HARP: The harp has those diagonal 'harp strings' that, if your settings/supports aren't ideal, will deform when printing due to the nature of the tall, thin 'strings'. In my harp 3MF file I did the following:

  1. Split the strings into a separate object and applied slower speed settings JUST for the strings to reduce the wobble that naturally occurs on thin models like that. I slowed it down to 100m/s for the outer wall and 150mm/s for the inner wall.

  2. Painted on tree supports across the harp strings to further ensure the wobble doesn't affect the print and that the 'strings' stay in position the entire time.

  3. Support settings:

  • Tree (auto), default

  • On build-plate only

  • 0 top interface layers, 0 bottom interface layers

  • Top and bottom Z distance: 0.32mm

  • XY distance: 0.4 / 0.5 (but this is less important that the other settings).

I hope you all like this - I sure did. Right from the initial drafting of it on paper down to the final print.

Much love,

cyanide.

I don’t work with cura, so I can’t speak for how that slicer reads 3MF files. Only one other person has had issues and they were using cura as well so I am assuming it’s a problem with cura.

The 3MF works with Orca slicer and Bambu slicer.

Okay...

But I'm not interested in using any other slicers at this time. Why don't you include the original .stl files in the download? Then it wouldn't be an issue for anyone.

Unfortunately I am on vacation and can’t upload the STLs right now. No one else has asked for the STL before, since the 3MFs have all recommended print settings already coded with it and can be read with most other slicers - except Cura I guess - so I never thought of it.

That being said, you can open all 3MF files with windows explorer (it’s just a compressed file like a .zip file) and extract the STL that way. Or open the 3MF with Windows 3D Builder and re-save it as an STL?

I continue to get a "load file failed". I have downloaded it 3 times now. Help!

Can you give me more information? What slicer are you user? When does the error appear?

I've tried to print the mask three times and part of the mask keeps falling over, less than 1 hour into the build. I'm using Bambu P1S with a clean build plate. The other two printed as expected. Any ideas?

Maybe try adding a bigger brim?

I'm having the exact same issue with the mask; having to cancel within the first hour or two due to the bottom of the mask just becoming spaghetti...

Have you tried with a bigger brim?

I would also love the STL files for the dread trove! It is the main reason why i came here!

Hi, are you unable to open the files when you download them?

What PLA did you use in the pictures? I'm trying hard to find it but keep coming up empty.

I downloaded this and extracted the zip file, none of the .3mf files contain a model when I open them in CURA or CAD,

I extracted the .3mf files and all that got me were some .png's

Did this download work for anyone else?

This download worked for everyone who doesn’t use Cura, it seems.

when you click download on Thangs, you will download a .zip file and within that zip file there are 4 3MF files for you to use :)

I've just checked it myself by hitting 'download' and the 3MFs are there in the zip file. Please let me know if you can't get it working!
