Printable XF5U Pancake Plane
The Vought XF5U "Flying Flapjack" was an experimental U.S. Navy fighter aircraft designed for Vought during World War II. This design consisted of a flat, disc-shaped body (resembling a pancake, hence its nickname) serving as the lifting surface. Two piston engines in the body drove propellers located on the leading edge, at the wingtips. The project was cancelled due to performance, reliability, and vibration issues, but the prototype was so strong it had to be scrapped using a wrecking ball.
The 3d printable model comes with fully rotating propellors, and two configuration options: In flight and with extended landing gear. Print each part with supports, and place the propellors on the spikes at the wingtips. Then place the propellor tips on after, using a drop of glue to keep them in place. (This is not necessary but is essential if you upscale the model.) For the landing gear, simply glue the legs into place in their sockets on the underside of the body.
