Paddle to the Sea.stl

Yo, Boomers and Gen X:  I bet some of you will remember this.  Paddle to the Sea was an educational film released by the National Film Board of Canada, based on the book by American author Clancy Holding.  The story is about a boy who carves an Indian in a Canoe and places it in the snow, hoping it will flow into a creek, the St. Lawrence River, and then the Atlantic Ocean.  The boat makes it!  Find the film on Youtube (about 30 minutes) and then download my version of Paddle to the Sea.

Note:  Don't throw him into a river or ocean, please.  It's just for fun.

From San Diego to the top of the state, California's Old Highway 101 is a classic!  Everyone should drive it if they can.  From beautiful beaches in crowded cities to towering cliffs, ancient trees, and small, coastal villages up north, this classic highway has something for everyone.  

This is sign 2 in the American Road Sign Series by Interstate 3D.  

This sign's design is intentional for creating multi-color road signs.  My technique is to begin printing in a base color, pause when it gets to the next section, switch colors, and so on.

Or print it in one color and use a variety of methods to add color, including permanent markers, paints, and more.

Solid Thangs gear shifter knob.  This is one of many shifter knobs I design for fun.  This particular one is a blank, meaning you drill it yourself and add in the nut that you want.

Or request a size and I'll upload one ready to print and add to a vehicle.  

I print 0.12 resolution and 100% infill.  It takes a good 7 hours, but it's worth it.  

At only 76 grams you can make 14 of these with one roll of filament. A custom shifter knob for less than two bucks!

Saint Patrick's Shifter, 10mm #StPatricksRemix

Saint Patrick is famous in folklore for driving the snakes out of Ireland.  If that story is true, he probably drove them in a truck that had a stick shift.  

Thangs3D is probably the only place lucky enough to have the shifter knob of Saint Patrick himself.  This lucky shifter knob got him out of a lot of situations.  He avoided a falling tree once. He claimed his hand was forcefully drawn to the stick shift, he downshifted, and the tree missed his car.  He was stumped.  

But then he realized it was his lucky Stick Shift knob that was behind his lucky driving.

This is 10mm.  It fits a lot of Japanese cars.  If you want a different thread size let me know, and perhaps you'll be lucky too.

No One Can Hear You Thang (Alien Egg).stl

In space no one can hear you thang!

This is a replica of the egg from the film Alien.  I printed it a few times, including with glow-in-the-dark filament and marble-like filament (which is what I recommend).  Using a somewhat speckled filament will get you good results if you eat an off-white egg.  Then you can add a green light inside.  Or print it in different colors for your Easter egg hunt.  It's your egg.  Have a crack at it.

The hole in the bottom is designed to fit a single battery-operated bulb.  I buy bags of them on Amazon.  Look in my models for a replica light bulb. that you can use in your projects.  It's the exact same size as the ones for sale online.  Do an Amazon search for small LED bulb with batteries.  You'll eventually see it.  They look just like bullets but with a light on the tip. 

Or build a display mount for it and run lights into it that way.  

As far as support is concerned, you don't really need it, but if you add it get ready to pick it out of there.  Your choice.  You can also cut it in half lengthwise in Meshmixer and print the two halves before glueing them together.

Are you thirsty for something different to print?  Just yell for the Koolaid Man, and he'll come crashing through a wall near you to deliver his yummy sugary summer goodness!   

It's pretty risky breaking through a brick wall when you're a glass pitcher holding a glass pitcher.  But if he's brave enough to break through bricks, you're brave enough to print it.

I designed it (and a few variations, such as him breaking into pieces).  There's even one with the Hawaiian Punch Dude.  I even have a light switch version if I can find it.

I made this one day because I like peace and I like gears.  Peacegear is your new lapel pin, keychain, bedroom wall sign, car emblem, thing you use to put your hair up, doorstop, cat toy and anything else that brings you peace.  Print it in two colors and use it for heads and tails.

Paper Towel Rocket Kit.stl

This is a very simple model rocket that is easy to make.  You need a paper towel tube, some superglue, a streamer for descent, a rocket engine, and these 3D files.

It flies great and is a lot of fun. 

Keyhole Keychain.stl

This is the bowl where Tony Hawk skated daily, building up his legendary career.  I skated it myself a few times, but never got past the coping.  Too many people watching (along with the fact that I wasn't a good skater).  

The Keyhole was the main bowl at the Del Mar Skate Ranch in Southern California.  The park no longer exists, but Tony Hawk does, and now you can take his bowl with you everywhere you go with the Keyhole Keychain.

It's a simple project and and prints quickly.  Add a keyring and give it to your favorite skater.  If you want the colors accurate, then print it in a marble filament and then paint a blue and orange line where the tiles would be.  

If you decide to print it for skating then you should scale it up a few thousand times, haha.    Feel free to ask any questions.  In the future I might post the fingerboard version that the kids can use with their Tech Decks.

The Piggly Wiggly One.stl

"Get Your Pig On!"
That's the slogan for what might be America's most endearing grocery store chain, The Piggly Wiggly.

I live near several, and it's a big part of modern Southern culture in the U.S.

This 3D model might be different than what you're used to seeing.  I call these shells, and after they are printed you fill the cavities with tinted resin.  I prefer to use Fast Cast white resin tinted with a few drops of enamel modeling paint from the small bottles made by Testors.  I mixed the paint with part an and then mix part an and b together.  Stir for almost a minute, pour, and then it cures in about fifteen minutes.  

At the end you will have the cavities filled with different color resins, and it will be a gloppy mess.  This is where a belt sander comes in handy.  With a belt sander you sand the face until the black lines emerge again.  It only takes a minute.  

The photo I included is of my last one, which I kept because it was an older prototype that had artifacts you could see after sanding.  Those issues are now resolved.  

Turn it into a coaster, lapel pin, or just enjoy it for the pigginess of it.

Ask me questions if you're confused.  I've been doing this a long time, and it's tricky at first, but can be a very satisfying way to make art pieces.  It's also extremely quick to print the shells..

IMPORTANT:  always print at 100% infill for this type of project.  You will be sanding a few layers off the top and you don't want to break through an outer layer if the infill is less than 100%

Space RX.stl

You heard of Space X.  Well, this is Space Rx.  So grab those empty prescription bottles, wash them out, and cut a few mm off the top and bottom.  Print these parts in as light of infill as you can, glue it all together, throw in a rocket engine (buy them online or at hobby stores), and let her rip!  

Build one today!  You don't even need a prescription.
