Model This is a tensile bench test rig made from mostly steel construction for testing tensile strength of whatever you can fit in it. I've tested it up to 1000 kg (the capacity of my scales) to test the breaking strength of metal 3D prints. When things break at these tensions, they can shoot off like bullets, so if you do have a go at building one of these, make sure to take appropriate safety measures.
You can check out the Build and Test Video to see how it all works.
Print Settings
- A few bits and pieces printed in PLA+ and TPU - mainly for appearances.
Hardware Required
- The majority of steel is 50 mm x 50 mm x 2 mm
- For the pivot arm, I used some salvaged steel: 50 mm x 60 mm x 5 mm (this arm takes most of the force).
- A barrel jack is used to apply force to the test rig.
