Have you ever found yourself saying something like "Wow, I could really use a pegboard for small items, but I don't want to hang a huge thing to my walls!"? Well friends, I'm here to solve that problem for you.

Introducing the Desktop Pegboard, or Bling Board (I don't know, you all help me think of a better name, the idea started as a jewelry holder), a small pegboard dressed up as some cute little designs instead of the ugly plain brown boards from the hardware store.

The idea originally started as a jewelry holder and I plan to make a version specifically for that, but I started with the pegboard option for most versatility. I have ideas for other designs and different variations for the bases and boards themselves, but I wanted to get these early designs out there and get feedback from all of you bout which way I should proceed forward first.

I've included 3mf files with a painted version of the Amanita for anyone with an AMS or MMU. I've also included the step file to make it easy to color yourself, if you want to switch it up.* I do have an idea for how I could make this mushroom able to be printed without the need for an MMU, just using a layer change and 4-5 layers of red _ I think that could work, but I'd like people's opinions before I put that one out.

  • Side note here, if you're coloring it yourself, all the red parts of the mushroom in the picture is "Part 1". So if you're using something like Bambu slicer to color it, you'll only need to change "Part 1" to easily repaint.

The holes are all 7.15mm, slightly larger than the 6.35mm (1/4") standard to give them a bit of clearance. They also have an incredibly small .25mm chamfer on each side of the holes for easier hook adding (hooking?). They're all spaced exactly 25.4mm on-center, the standard dimensions in the US. (Sorry international friends, I'll work on a Skadis version for you guys, if people want.)

As they are, you won't want to rescale anything because it'll throw the dimensions of the holes and none of your pegboard hooks will work. If people do want a smaller or larger version, just let me know and I can easily upload those. These sizes just seemed to be a good jumping off point.

HEADS UP

These things are NOT heavy duty. You certainly don't want to use these to replace holding any actual tools. This was a small version I made originally to display jewelry, but I went with pegboard sized holes to begin with. They're great for holding keychains, bracelets, earrings and I've been using the cloud to hold my clay modeling tools. The bases aren't crazy heavy and the boards can be printed with a light supportive cubic infill to save filament, just keep in mind how heavy you're loading the front. A good idea to keep them in place is to use those little sticky things for hanging posters or keeping small decorations in place. It's like the 3M sticky stuff but tiny little squares. Another thing I do for adding weight to my prints is to print them with 5% lightning infill and then drill a small hole in a hidden spot and fill them with sand, then use hot glue to seal the hole. This won't work for the boards themselves, but should work to add some weight to the bases.

Again, I think there's a lot of options and versatility with these things, I just wanted to get these versions out to get peoples feedback.

I hope you enjoy them! I'd love to see your makes and any feedback you have.
