Coin-Reinforced Hat Brim Bottle Opener Clip

This model is restricted by licensing terms. 

Never dig around for a bottle opener again, clip this one right to your cap.

This is a functional bottle opener built around a spring-style clip, sized to grip a standard baseball cap brim. The same clip works just as well on a belt loop, pocket edge, or waistband, so it doesn't have to live on your hat.

The catch is reinforced with a coin insert. Mid-print, the job pauses so you can drop in a Canadian or American dime (they're very similar in size, so either works). The coin adds rigidity right where the opener takes the most stress, without adding a second material or a glue step.

What it fits: Built for a typical baseball cap brim. At 4mm thickness and up, the fit is secure and won't fall off unless you take it off yourself. The sample photos are a 3.8mm brim, it fits but isn't as snug, and can work loose with enough movement or force. It'll still clip onto brims down to around 3.5mm (estimated), just with a looser hold below 4mm.

What you'll need:

  • A Canadian or American dime (works with either)
  • PLA (printed in Classic PLA)

Printing & assembly instructions: This is a single-piece print, no glue, no second part, nothing to align afterward. The only step is the coin pause:

  1. Orient the model with the bottle opener face down on the bed and the clip flipped up on top. This orientation lines up a clean, flat layer partway through the print, exactly where you'll pause to drop the coin in.
  2. Turn on supports, the clip has a large overhang and needs support to print cleanly. (Printed on honeycomb auto-supports, but any support style that covers overhangs will work.)
  3. Slice and set a manual pause at layer 34, right at that flat layer.
  4. When the printer pauses, drop the dime in flat, fully seated in the pocket.
  5. Resume, the next layers close over the coin and lock it in place. No adhesive needed.
  6. Pliers may be needed to remove supports from the hard-to-reach areas of the clip after printing.

Settings:

  • Infill: 15-20% (grid)
  • Layer height: 0.16mm
  • First layer height: 0.2mm
  • Perimeters: 2
  • Supports: Honeycomb pattern (auto-generated)
  • Orientation: opener face down on the bed, clip faced up on top (creating clean pause layer for dime insertion)
