Objective: The objective of Peg Solitaire is to remove as many pegs as possible, ideally leaving just one peg remaining on the board.

Gameplay: Start with the board set up with pegs in all holes, except for one predetermined hole (often the center hole) left empty.

  • Pegs can only move horizontally or vertically, not diagonally.
  • A peg can jump over an adjacent peg (either horizontally or vertically) to an empty hole on the other side, similar to how pieces move in checkers when capturing.
  • The peg that was jumped over is removed from the board and considered "captured." The game continues by making subsequent jumps, capturing pegs until no more legal moves can be made. The goal is to make as many jumps as possible, ideally leaving just one peg on the board. If you succeed in leaving only one peg, you've won the game.

Rules and Restrictions: You can only jump over a single peg at a time. You can't jump over an empty hole. The peg that is jumping must land in an empty hole after the jump. The peg being jumped over must be adjacent to the peg making the jump, either horizontally or vertically.

Winning: The game is considered a success if you end up with only one peg left on the board. If you achieve this, you have won the game. If you leave more than one peg on the board, or if no legal moves are possible, you lose the game.
