I-Ching 16-Stick Set
This project is a set of 16 sticks designed for the I-Ching divination method, paired with a cylindrical container featuring a carved serpent motif. Inspired by traditional Chinese carved boxes, the design combines functionality with a nod to ancient craftsmanship. The set is practical for those interested in I-Ching readings with the method of 16 and serves as a tribute to the Year of the Snake.
About I-Ching and the 16-Stick Method
The I-Ching, or "Book of Changes," is an ancient Chinese text used for divination and guidance. The 16-stick method offers a simplified yet effective way to generate hexagrams compared to traditional straws method and it is more accurate than the three coin method. The serpent motif aligns with the symbolic meaning of the Year of the Snake, associated with transformation and wisdom, making this set both functional and thematic.
How to use
Begin by assembling the box: slide the disc into the slit on the lid, place the decorative ring, and screw it securely onto the container.
Place all 16 sticks inside the box. Take a moment to center yourself and reflect on your question or intention. Hold the box, shuffle the sticks gently as long as feels right.
When ready, extract one stick, take note, put it back in the box and repeat until you have the six lines. You could also continue drawing the sticks without putting them back and use them to avoid taking notes, but the probabilities will gradually diverge. Once the hexagram is complete, consult an I-Ching book or online resource to interpret its meaning. Let the ancient guidance of the I-Ching offer insight and clarity to your question.
