This design is part of a series that explores different circular textile geometries. It features a circumferential regular knit pattern.

The pieces could be used as trivets or scaled down for use as coasters. Be aware of the temperature limitations of your printing material and do not use with hot objects!

These are advanced prints that require a well calibrated printer and experience with slicing complex models. 

The bowls are printed upside down. I recommend raising the model 3mm off the build plate and building supports up into the cavity of the bowl.

In order to maximize optical clarity and visual effect, you will want to minimize the amount of infill. These are excellent prints to try out the “lightening infill” feature in Cura. “Lightening infill” minimizes the amount of infill material used, and also creates interesting “crack” silhouettes in the finished print.

Increase the infill density and reduce the angle of overhang that gets supported, aiming for adequate support at the base of the icicle, but minimal support up inside the icicles. Be sure to do a layer-by-layer inspection prior to printing to ensure that all areas are properly supported.

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π.

Pi Day is often celebrated with pie due to a pun based on the words "pi" and "pie" and the coincidental circular shape of many pies.

If you want to rock this year’s Pi Party, this is the kitchenware you’re going to need.

For best resolution of text, print with a 0.4mm nozzle.

Lactuca Round Bowl

The organic forms in the Lactuca Series bear a resemblance to the contours of leafy lettuce. Stare at them long enough and your mind might start seeing strange plants and creatures begin to appear!

This wind glass is derived from the gyroid triply periodic minimal surface. It was designed using nTopology.

Weaire-Phelan Highball

This “Weaire-Phelan Highball” is part of a set of three tableware pieces inspired by the Weaire-Phelan structure, the most mathematically efficient way for equal-volume bubbles to fit together to make foam. See here for video: https://youtu.be/f4YIuS_-hSE

This piece could be used as a vase or pencil holder.

The Weaire-Phelan structure is made up of two pentagonal dodecahedra (12-sided) and six tetrakaidecahedra (14-sided) that form a translation unit with a lattice periodicity which is simple cubic. In crystallography, this structure is also known as the A15 Frank-Kasper phase.
