Planetary Gear Print-in-Place Demo 

**Planetary Gear Print-in-Place Demo**
I expect to incorporate planetary gearing into future projects but I wasn’t real familiar with their design. It’s amazing how they work but they are actually quite confusing as you can achieve different output ratios from the same gear set.  I created this model as a demonstration unit to better understand how they work by having a physical example to hold. 

**Size**
The gears are module 1, both the sun and planet gears have 12 teeth and the ring gear has 36 teeth. 
Ratio: 3:1 or 1:4


**Demonstration**
If you hold the carrier and turn the sun gear, you get at 3:1 speed reduction.  This ratio is a result of  the 36 teeth on the ring gear divided by the 12 teeth on planet gears.  If you wanted further reduction, you would make the sun gear smaller then the plant gears. 

If you hold the carrier and turn the ring gear, you get a 1:4 speed increase on the sun gear. The is because the much larger diameter ring gear is moving faster than the smaller sun gear. The equation works out to be the 36 teeth of the ring gear divided by the 12 teeth of the planet gear plus 1. 

If you hold the sun gear and spin the ring gear and the carrier, there is no reduction and it acts like a bearing

Designed for a .4mm nozzle, .2mm layer heights, no supports at 100%.

Short Bony Basilisk - Articulated Snap-Flex Fidget (Tight Joints)

**Print-In-Place, No Supports, Articulating Fidget Toy**

Emerging from the crypts and cursed castles, the Bony Basilisk is here to bewitch and bedazzle just in time for the spooky season! With its detailed skeletal structure, this bony behemoth is prepared to perch on your shelf as the haunting highlight of your Halloween assembly or stand sentinel, casting a bone-chilling shadow for your guests.  This ancient creature refuses to let the ghosts, ghouls, and dragons have all the fall-time fun on their own.

This articulated fidget toy integrates the Mimetics 3D "Snap-Flex" joint. This allows the Bony Basilisk to both move smoothly, mimicking the fluid motion of living creatures, AND stabilize in a firm pose, providing a premium fidgeting experience. Each **SNAP** will resonate as a symphony of satisfaction to your ears, confirming your masterful manipulations.

This Bony Basilisk is the third creation in a series of Snap-Flex models by Mimetics 3D, and it's available for free for a limited time.


**Tolerance:**
To accommodate different printer settings and filaments, I’m uploading 3 different tolerance levels for the Bone Snake to ensure that you get the best fitting, most satisfying “SNAP” with each of your prints.

This is the **Tight** tolerance model.  For the other tolerances, please check out the other versions of the model below:

**Print Settings:**
0.2mm Layer Height
3 Wall Loops
3 Top Shell Layers
No Supports, Print-In-Place at 100% scale.  Going any smaller may disable the Snap-Flex joint.

These tolerances are TIGHT and you'll likely have to snap each segment a few times before it's loose enough to snap/unsnap easily. I recommend you use regular PLA or PLA+. ABS might be even better, but I haven't tried it yet.

Silk PLA is a bit softer and may not click as nicely. I'd also be more concerned about silk PLA holding up to the wear and tear.
If you print this in resin, please let me know how it turns out. I imagine you would need a more flexible/less stiff resin for it to work appropriately.
