Urban Goose: Assembly Guide & Printing Tips The Urban Goose is a highly customizable, multi-part model. The standout feature of this build is the Nike Air Max sneakers, which are designed for maximum customization. Whether you want a clean, minimalist look or a vibrant, multi-colored masterpiece, this guide will help you bring your goose to life.
Customization & Painting
- The Sneakers: Every component of the Nike Air Max is individually colorable. From the sole and the "air bubble" to the individual panels and laces, you can customize the shoes as much or as little as you like.
- How to Paint: For best results in your slicer, use the Paint fill tool with edge detection set to 90. This allows you to click each specific part of the sneaker to see exactly what can be colored.
- Filament Selection:
- Indoor: PLA is perfect for standard displays.
- Outdoor: Use PETG for general outdoor use. For very hot climates, consider ABS or ASA to prevent warping.
- Designer’s Palette: I used a mix of Bambu Basic (White, Black, Light Grey, Yellow-Orange, Dark Grey) and Matte (Red, Dark Blue) plus Dark Green. Printing & Tolerances
- Scaling: The XL and Not So XL versions have specific tolerances tuned for their sizes. If you scale the model down further yourself, you may need to reduce the connector sizes by an additional 1–2%.
- Supports: The provided .3mf file has supports enabled. Set the top Z distance to 0.275mm for easy removal. Crucial: Ensure all support material is completely cleared from the connector holes.
- Fitment: If connectors feel tight (often in supported areas), you can scale the connector down by 1–2%. Many variables affect tolerance, including printer calibration and filament type.
The Build Process Note: "Left" and "Right" refer to the goose’s perspective.
- The Base: Insert four connectors into the base (two per side), then slide the yellow side panels into place.
- Legs & Sneakers: Pass the base-to-leg connectors through the sneakers and into the legs.
- Lower Body: Place two connectors into the top of the legs and set the lower body in place.
- The Hoodie: Insert five connectors into the top of the lower body, then fit the hoodie over them.
- Arms: Insert one connector into each arm, then attach them to the hoodie.
- Head & Face: Place two connectors into the top of the hoodie and slide the head on. Insert a connector into the beak before pushing it into the head. Snap the two eyes into their slots.
- The Hat: Join the two halves of the baseball cap using the two connectors. The hat features a built-in central connector that slides into the top of the head. Finally, slide the Nike logo into the front of the hat (which faces the rear of the model).
- Finishing Touches: To complete the hoodie, place the Nike "Swoosh" in first, followed by the two hoodie strings. Pro Tip: Always perform a "dry build" (assemble without glue) first to ensure you understand the placement. Glue is required for the final assembly, especially for parts that won't stay in place on their own, such as the sunglasses.
Congratulations! Your Urban Goose is ready to hit the streets.
