Wont stay closed for me even tho I've got pretty strong magnets. Dunno what to do.
Hi, are you sure you placed the magnets with the correct polarity according to the manual? I have reprinted the design and tried multiple magnets with no issues.
Hi, sorry for the negative comment but like after an hour the magnets hold like crazy. I don’t know how but I suggest letting it rest for a while😅
Hahah no worries, I am glad it works! :)
Same issue as above. I downloaded and printed V2 and it does not close. Polarity is correct. Is V2 the one with less layers covering?
Hi, yes, V2 is with magnets closer.
It does not hold it closed. I would be concerned that it will open when traveling. Perhaps a bigger magnet would work better like 6x3mm? Is there a way to make the holes larger for that?
Hi, there is only 2 layers covering now - a minimum. If you are absolutely sure that both of the magnets are correctly oriented, then I will have to recommend trying a different brand, unfortunately. I have tried multiple brands and held very strong, so maybe the ones you got are fairly weak, unfortunately. I can try to use larger magnets next time, but this is unfortunately a maximum size that fits this design.
Thank you! I had no idea magnets had different strengths! I ordered some N52 magnets and will try it with those. <3
Just uploaded a new version with a 3 magnet pairs option! :)
Just printed and it is perfect! Thank you! I would love for you to do a hinged organizer option for daily supplements with deep sections to hold all the vitamins I take that I hope do something.
Hi! I hope you’re doing well :) I recently printed your jewelry box design and overall it turned out really beautiful, I loved it!
But I noticed something around the magnet areas and I wanted to ask you about it. In my print, the filament didn’t fully cover the magnets, so you can see some little gaps/blobs on the surface. It looks like the top layer didn’t completely seal that area. I was wondering if I might be missing something in the settings or assembly process.
For those having issues with the magnets. Sometimes, when magnets are heated (like when they are in contact with the hot filament), they can lose their magnetism. Leaving them to rest and cool down for a little can help their strength come back, but if magnets get too hot, they can lose their strength permanently (unlikely for this print, though).
Thank you for this, very interesting! I had no idea this could happen, will put it in the net instructions hahah. I added a new version for up to 3 magnets pairs just in case! :)
Buenas tardes!
I sent you an email about this - I honestly can't believe THANGS doesn't have a direct message function as part of the website. But I think you may see this comment section first. I just built the box and it came out great. The only issue is the two sides won't stick together with the magnets. I confirmed they are installed properly - I can put a magnet on the outside and it stays in place great and then using that magnet the box will stay closed - so all 4 magnets are correctly installed.
There is also contact on me in all PDFs that come with my files. 🙏🏻 Email just in case: simonauhrova3d@gmail.com
Hi Michael, I am sorry you are experiencing issues with the magnets. The box holds very strong for me, to the point that is is even impossible to open it with one hand. I did not assume, that some magnets can be that much weaker. Please check once again, that the orientation is correct according to the instructions provided. I also uploaded an edited version, where the magnets are covered with 2 layers only - a minimum I can do if we still want the magnets covered. Let me know if that helps. 🙏
thank you! i will print the new file soon and let you know. i tried to look on amazon to see if there were different strengths of magnets but they all just say "very strong rare earth magnet" so not easy to ensure they are strong enough. I'm sure there's a wide range of quality in magnets
Really hope it helps! :) Yeah probably I was just lucky with the magnets 🙈 Thanks for letting me know, I will order bunch of others to test it in the next designs. :)
Happy to report that the updated model did work with my magnets. It is still not super strong, but it stays closed. I have some 6x3 mm magnets and those are noticeably stronger attraction, so my 5x3 ones must just be relatively weak. At any rate, thanks for updating the model so quickly!
Hi, glad it helped! I can put the larger magnets option in the next design, unfortunately there is not enough space in this one.
Continuing - I think the holes for the magnets are just a few layers too far apart. I got standard rare earth 5x3 mm magnets off amazon, and they seem to be plenty strong to me. And the fact that a single extra external magnet can hold everything together seems to indicate the gap between the embedded ones is just a little to big. Would it be possible to get a modified STL with the magnet holes raised up maybe 1 or 2 layers on each side? The print came out perfect, so it's just a bummer.
Just finished printing one and I have the same issue with it. Print turned out great tho
Just uploaded a new version, where the magnets are as close as they can be. :)
Hopefully Simiu can address this quickly - but knowing someone else had the same issue reinforces the need for some adjustment to the magnet locations. thanks for replying!
Just uploaded a new version with a 3 magnet pairs option! :)
Cannot get it to download
Hi, I already contacted Thangs about this issue. Also sending you email with the files now before they solve it.
Will not download
