I'm on a bit of a bargain-basement kick, and wanted to see how cheap I could get a pocket node. After a lot of shopping around, here's what I've managed to cobble together. It's definitely a lot more Janky DIY than other solutions but the price tag isn't bad, and the battery life looks to be about 36 hours.
The hookup schematic is at https://github.com/meshtastic/firmware/blob/develop/variants/nrf52840/diy/nrf52_promicro_diy_tcxo/Schematic_Pro-Micro_Pinouts%202024-12-14.pdf

Nate, that is not jank. Jank is soldering wires to everything and stuffing it in a cigarette pack covered with packing tape. 🫣😄
In the process of building one of these for fun. Flashed meshtastic to the pro micro before soldering to change the radio settings as you suggested. I'm wondering if it's normal for it to take a minute or 2 for a setting's option to open? Like I tap the "Lora" option and then about 2 minutes later the Lora settings open up in the meshtastic app. It's the same with serial and Bluetooth connections. Just curious if that's normal for this device before moving on.
I don't know about two minutes but it does take longer than I'd like on any Meshtastic device. I think they went way to heavy using the method they did. Which is eacaping me ATM.
