This pagoda is one of the most iconic and popular exhibits at the National Museum of Korea.

Ten-Story Pagoda of Gyeongcheonsa was built by Kang Yung in Gyeongcheonsa in Busosan, Gwangdeok-myeon, Gaepung-gun, Gyeonggi-do, of which was in the 4th year of Chungmok of Goryeo (1348). It was designated in December 20th, 1962 as the national treasure #86. This pagoda was influenced by the Yuan Dynasty, and made of gray marble, and after the tower was built, there were lots of damages from the third floor to the bottom of the tower due to superstition and anti-religious reasons.

In 1902, it was informed to be in ruined temple according to Sekino Tadashi’s investigative reporting, and in 1907, it was illegally dissolved and exported by Tanaka Mitsuaki, the Minister of the Imperial Household who joined in a wedding ceremony of Emperor Sunjong. After the exportation, many of critical opinion has been generated and in 1916, the Japanese Government-General of Korea investigated the fact of pagoda exported and in 1918 it was returned again to Korean peninsula. In 1960, it was rebuilt in Gyeongbokgung Palace of Seoul, and actually transferred to National Museum of Korea.

The stylobate of 3 layers has the form of A(亞) from the superior part, and the high body of tower of 10th floor lifted over that also had the same form as that of the stylobate until 3rd floor, and from 4th floor it had the plane of square. In the 1st body stone of tower, there was the register of which it was built in 1348, and it shows correctly its period built.

This style has affected the national treasure #2, Ten-story Stone Pagoda of Wongaksa Temple Site, in the Joseon Dynasty.
