Standing Umbrella Storage for IKEA Tjusig
After trying several Umbrella storage-solutions and being generally unhappy with the result, I finally realized that I could simply use a small part of the shoe rack. It's right next to the door so perfect location. All that's needed is a simple part that I could easily design and print.
So after wasting about a kilo of filament on other solutions, I made this simple thing. It's a bracket consisting of two parts that clicks into each other around the metal rods of the IKEA Tjusig. It's a tight fit by design. With a loser fit, they won't stay in place when there's horizontal force applied to it, i.e. when there's an Umbrella there.
If you find that it slides to the side (I have not experienced this at all yet,) print another set and attach it next to the first. I've considered trying to print this with TPU for an even grippier fit, but I have yet to try it.
IMPORTANT! IKEA has a nasty habit of making tweaks to their designs over time without documenting the changes (for the public). So in order to make sure this model works with your IKEA Tjusig before printing it, these are the precise measurements that the rods should have. If these are accurate, this model should fit perfectly.
- Rod Diameter: 16.0mm
- Rod gap: 56.0mm
If your shoe rack do not match these measurements, that means yours is an updated design and this model won't fit. If this is the case for you, leave a comment with the measurements you took (use a good enough caliper please), so I can make a new model for you to try.
Snap fit The pieces snap into place. You don't need glue or screws. Just print and snap them in. You should consider it permanent though - one of the pieces broke when I went to separate them. Luckily it doesn't take much filament so printing a new one isn't difficult or particularly wasteful.
I deliberately kept the parts cheap of filament given how much abuse they're going to take over time, and I will most likely have to re-print them eventually anyway.
For smaller printers Printing this as one solid part won't be possible on a smaller printer. Luckily, the snap fit I designed in should hold everything in place even though it's not a continuous part. In the Standing Umbrella Storage for IKEA Tjusig (Small Printers).3mf file, those models are just the normal .step files cut in half.
