This is an awesome printed in place, articulated compliance mechanism.
The bowl prints "open" and when it comes off the bed all the "walls" or "fingers" as I call them are loose and on their own hinges. THEN, you print the ring... the ring makes the bowls rigid, useable and strong.
The ring is the difference from a floppy fidget toy to a useable bowl. There is also a threaded cap at the bottom. I have dreams of using this for a lamp shade at some point... so that's why that is there.
Putting the ring on is tricky. I turn the bowl upside down into the ring and slowly start threading the ring on making sure all the fingers are in the proper position. If you do it just right the bowl will become rigid and awesome.
If you have a MMU print the ring in two colors. If you print in one color (both bodies) then it will just be solid.
