It would be nice to add spring dimensions in mm as well for the international audience.

Valid point. I'm just used to both so didn't even think about it. I updated the description to include both

The silk PLA I used had some issues with supports brim not wanting to separate on the first two but the light blue printed as good as it could with the bed I was using. Inside of all 3 printed perfectly. The glow in the dark PLA I printed the internals in didn’t want to go back all the way with the trigger, but after switching to some Creality Hyper PLA internals printed good and cycle well.

I also noticed it fires more consistently when the magazine is more full, could also be the food lube needing worked in though. Overall great print. Gonna dial in my printer better then work on some PZ-11s 😁

Hey man I just made this design today and it is awesome! I did a bit of tinkering and reduced a lot of issues with stuck triggers and firing malfunctions by combining the two TrigMech's into a single piece. I am looking forward to making another for PEZ related hijinks

Splibbidy S

Hey man I really like this design. So I made this to spice it up a little: https://than.gs/m/996687

Mitch P

Hell yeah! I love it!

Bronte

I'm having a problem where the trigger gets stuck after I pull it. I've deburred everything the edges are good, im not sure what else to look at to fix it. Other than the times it gets stuck its great and we've been having a great time playing with it

Mitch P
soloprototype

One more thing, if it moves freely but sucks only at the very end, it might be binding when the bars that push the trigger move up, towards the top of the gun. I thought I designed enough tolerance to prevent that but I had that happen on early versions. Let me know what you find out and I'm happy to help you resolve it however I can

Mitch P
soloprototype

Sorry you're having problems! Hm.. let me think.. so I think I remember this happening on occasion when the trigger assembly was too wide for the cavity it slides in. Or vice versa for whatever reason. To diagnose if that is it, I'd loosen the screws a bit. Or hold the hammer back while moving the trigger to see if you can feel where it's hanging up

Bronte
msbronte923

I reprinted the trigger pieces and sanded them down a little more and everything is working great. Not sure what I messed up the first time but it was clearly just operator error. Thank you!

Mitch P

Oh I'm glad to hear! Enjoy!

Thanks for this amazing model. I'll print it with huge enthusiasm !

Mitch P

Welcome! Hope you enjoy it

Hieu

The pez candy breaks off a small piece in front when i fire it and the rest stays in the dispenser. Do you know what the problem is?

Mitch P
soloprototype

Maybe the trigger mechanism is releasing too early? What happens if you pull the hammer back manually all the way then let it go?

Hieu
hewsubs408

So i did try your suggestion of trying it with only half shell and it looks like the trigmech is releasing the hammer to early and it catches the middle of the pez candy. I will try to reprint the hammer/trigmech again and see if it fixes it but do you have any ideas? Thanks

Mitch P
soloprototype

That problem is why i dropped the double action trigger in the newer version. It's so hard to tell why it goes wrong when it does but i had it pretty dialed in. I should probably revisit this design someday and make a better mechanism.

Anyhow, you absolutely can get it working but you might have to try adjusting the tip of the arm that pushes the hammer or the "ear" on the hammer to get it to release at the right time.

Curious - what material and printer are you using?

Hieu
hewsubs408

Gotcha. Thanks for the input. I am using esun pla silk for all parts except the trigger and hammer which are bambu basic pla. Printed on a bambu p1s.

Mitch P
soloprototype

oh wow i have the same printer. Printed in pla, i wasnt having any issues right off the printer. I'm hopeful if you print a new set it'll work 🤞

Hieu
hewsubs408

so i was using the wrong compression spring that was 10mm longer this whole time. Popped in a 20mm one and it works perfectly. Thanks for your work!

Mitch P
soloprototype

Hm.. I've never had that happen but it sounds like something is definitely out of alignment. I think I'd start by using only one half of the shell and no springs (or just the extension spring?) to make sure the candy is pushed out of the dispenser and into the barrel without running into anything. Like move the firing mechanism by hand. Sorry it's hard to say but I haven't heard of that issue.

i haven't printed this yet but i whipped up a little something so that it can work with rubber bands instead of just springs

i am very new here so i am having sooo much trouble with uploading the files. i mean i got really close on my first try and i wanted delete a file that i didn't want, but i ended up deleting the whole thing by accident and now i can't get it back and i've tried to get the page that i was using back but i couldn't so i've just kinda just given up. if anyone can help i would really appreciate it.

Needfordopamine

ok, i'm getting back on track but any advice would still be appreciated.

Needfordopamine

oh my god, my single braincell just fired. ... what if you were to replace the extension spring with a rubber band.

Mitch P

It should work if it was the right size 🤷‍♂️ sorry I didn't respond to your questions about the stuff to order. I didn't get notified. Thangs is hit and miss with that

thank you i wanted to make sure that i didn't get a spring that was too strong or too weak and also thank you for responding so quick

Mitch P

I think those would work. I used hex socket cap screws but it looks like the head of these would still fit in the hole so you should be good 👍

How do you modify the pez dispenser into the magazine edit: never mind, i was being stupid and didn't read the description.

Does the home Depot link for the screws come with m3 hex nuts as well?

Mitch P
soloprototype

No - it is just the screws. Here is a link to m3 nuts. The one by me doesn't have black oxide finish in stock but they have these zinc ones https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-M3-0-5-Zinc-Hex-Nut-5-Pieces-862798/323368368

DP

Thank you so much! One more question, are the heads of the screws you used round?

Mitch P
soloprototype

No problem! Yep - they are socket head cap screws. You can see the heads of them in pic 2 and pic 4

I have a question about the trigger not resetting after firing, not sure if this the place to post, how can I better contact you, not too familiar with Thangs yet

Mitch P
soloprototype

Sorry - I wish Thangs would give me push notifications when someone commented. I'm happy to help via these comments or you should be able to message me on any social platform. Anyhow, if it's not resetting, i'd see if it's because the trigger is not returning all the way forward first. If that is not the cause, i think i need more info. Is it catching at all?

Adam C
adams.fab.ca

its shooting one shot nice but the trig_mechs are sliding up over the hammer "ears" Parts are nice and smooth and fit nice looking at them before assembly. i printed the inner parts from PETG but i dont think that would cause this. thoughts?

Mitch P
soloprototype

Hm yeah it shouldn't matter if you printed them in PETG but I haven't actually done it. Sorry you're having trouble So it sounds like the trigger is not resetting? Is the trigger getting stuck back and not going forward at all? Or is it going forward and just not resetting?

Adam C
adams.fab.ca

getting stuck at the back. i can reset everything (trigger and hammer) manually and it all feels smooth. i can see the trig_mech arms have slid over the catch of the hammer when looking in from the back. The hammer is forward not cycled back.

Mitch P
soloprototype

So sorry I don't have a direct answer but when that would happen to me, I'd take it apart again and try to get it to bind while moving it manually with the springs out. Or look for signs of rubbing. Then focus on those areas with deburring / sanding / super lube

Mitch P
soloprototype

The other possibility is that the Tigger block is binding on the front edge when trying to travel forward. Did you put any grease on the trigger block? I use that super lube stuff (food grade)

Mitch P
soloprototype

Okay I think I've had that happen before and if you pull the hammer back slightly, I think the trigger will go forward. It's getting pinched on the body for whatever reason when the arms are all the way up. I wish I could attach a picture but I'd try to deburr or sand away what the arms touch when they go all the way up. Hope that makes sense

Mitch P
soloprototype

Yeah sorry. Shell is what I meant

Adam C
adams.fab.ca

when you say body you mean shell? i think i get what your saying

Dianne B

The sender just rides over the top of the Pezs, without sending any of them out of the clip.

Mitch P
soloprototype

Hmmm. Are you sure the Pez dispenser is going all the way up where it should? When you pull the sender back, the Pez should snap up to where the bar will push it out the barrel when coming forward. Like the vertical bar on the sender needs to push the Pez Candy down so the spring in the dispenser pushes the candy up when the sender is back. Hope that makes sense

Doug B

Anyone have a link to nuts that will fit ?

Doug B

awesome Would this work for nuts and bolts ? M3 Metric Screws Assortment Kit, 420 Pcs Hex Socket Head Cap Screws Bolts and Nuts Set, Black Machine Screws Nuts and Bolts Kit for 3D Printer, Metric Allen Hex Drive, M3*(6/8/10/12/16/20) mm https://a.co/d/4hoA3Dy

Mitch P

Yes! I think that's the exact kit I have

Matthew S
matthew.sabin

I'm missing something obvious I'm sure: where does the extension spring go?

Mitch P
soloprototype

One side connects to the trigger bar and the screw towards the tip goes through the other end. It's purpose is to reset the trigger

Matthew S
matthew.sabin

Thanks! My teenager was figuring it out while I was typing the question. This is really cool, and I'm printing another right away because he won't share. I'll post a build photo shortly.

Mitch P
soloprototype

Thank you! Hope you all enjoy!

Andrew M
andmillward

Loving this! But how the heck do you print the outside shell? Printing with the "candy gat" text face up needs supports which leave too much friction on the inside. Printing the text face down I cannot get the text to stick to the build plate which just creates nasty globs.

Mitch P
soloprototype

Thank! Print both halves text down. Sorry I should update this listing to have the orientation

Mitch P
soloprototype

Oh I see you said you're having issues with the text. I did them all face down. Check your support settings or something because I'd have just one layer of support I'd have to pick out of there

Adrien M
diplo3D

is there a way to print the pez dispenser bc i'm in europe and we don't have that

Mitch P

In the new version, the dispenser is all printed. Unfortunately not in this version. Are you sure? Pez was invented and manufactured in Austria

James M

Is there a spring assortment that is similar to the homedepot one like on Amazon?

This ones pretty cheap and it works perfect. I forgot which ones I used so just use the one's that A fit and B are Extended/compressed when in regular position

Mitch P

I haven't found one with the springs you'd need. Sorry. I listed the sizes if you want to order them off McMaster or something. Just is definitely cheaper to find the kit
