Superstrings is a Turning Interlocking Cube (TIC) puzzle with only two pieces. You can assemble and disassemble the puzzle with the correct sequence of sliding and rotation moves. (Solution provided in the attached document.)

This updated version of the award-winning [Superstrings puzzle](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1870525) has been made possible by [Aaron Siegel's](https://www.thingiverse.com/asiegel/designs) [Puzzlecad](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3198014) program. The included OpenSCAD file can be edited to change the size of the pieces, amount of chamfer on the edges, and degree of offset on the faces.

Print one set of puzzlecad-Super.stl in your first colour.
Print one set of puzzlecad-Strings.stl in your second colour.

ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS
There are four STL files. You will need to print the following parts.
For the A piece:
1 x Superstrings_Base_A.stl
2 x Superstrings_Arm.stl
2 x Superstrings_End.stl

and for the B piece:
1 x Superstrings_Base_B.stl
2 x Superstrings_Arm.stl
2 x Superstrings_End.stl

Please pay attention to the recommended settings and the advice to lower your extrusion multiplier setting if your printer/filament combination shows even the slightest tendency to over-extrusion (small gaps in your top surfaces is much better than small bumps).

Print the base A set first in one colour and then print the base B set in a different colour.

P.S. I discovered that the splitting happened when I increased the chamfer setting to 1 mm. I have now reset it to 0.5 mm when none of my test prints had the splitting problem.

Superstrings - 2019 update

This version rendered in puzzlecad (thanks, Aaron Siegel!) provides two benefits. First, the pieces have been split into printable sub-parts that need no support material. Each of the 3 STL files contains all the parts for one puzzle piece. Second, the edges now have a 1 mm bevel which means no clean up should be needed.

Note that there is zero offset tolerance for the connecting pegs and holes, so they will be a tight fit. Use a clean, smooth vice, or light taps with a hammer to assemble the pieces. I did not need to use any glue at all.

I strongly advise printing with at least 3 perimeters to give the joints enough strength. 

PLEASE REFER TO THE SHAPES OF DAVID’S ORIGINAL MODEL FILES TO CHECK HOW TO CORRECTLY ASSEMBLE EACH PIECE.

This is a scan of the bust of Samuel Pepys that can be found in the garden of St Olaves Church in Hart Street, London. http://spitalfieldslife.com/2015/09/24/samuel-pepys-at-st-olaves/
I used the Occipital Structure Sensor attached to my iPad to create the scan, and I gave this 3D printed bronze copy of the bust to my dad (the ex-secretary of the Samuel Pepys Club) on Father's Day 2016.

When I bought a new hot end from E3D-online I discovered that it wouldn't fit inside the fan duct on my Mendel90, so I redesigned it.  
This duct is for a 60 mm fan and has a larger central hole and a slimmer profile, which allows it to sit underneath the nozzle cooling fan.  
This version was created in Cubify Invent and is made available as a .FUN file as well as an STL file.

Remove the top cover. Use a long Philips screwdriver to remove the small screw deep in the cover.
Print the new button on its side with support enabled. This orientation is important for strength.
Pushing the new button into the hole in the cover is quite fiddly. Get it close and then press it hard until the button engages and the screw hole lines up, then replace the screw.

Not a remix but inspired by http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1008948, this is an original design created in Onshape.
The binocular clamp consists of three interlocking parts. The main post was designed to fit in the QS03 quick-release socket for a Vanguard tripod.The 8 x 40 binoculars rest in the cradle on top of the post. The upper block is then slid down onto the binoculars and finally the top lock is slid into place to lock the binoculars firmly in place.

This puzzle was my entry for the 2011 IPP Puzzle Design competition in Berlin where it was a Jury 1st Prize winner.

"Two open-ended Superstrings with the correct spin can be merged into a super-symmetrical cube."
The idea for this puzzle emerged when I was designing shapes based on two interlocked tetrahedra.  Inspired by ideas from 'string theory' and 'super-symmetry', I began to search for shapes that were both symmetrical and as similar as possible.
The two pieces may look similar but they are very slightly different.

'Printable' means no support material required.  
'Interlocking' means the puzzle pieces fit together only in the correct sequence and will not fall apart when the puzzle is moved.

Printable Interlocking Puzzle #2

The designer of this puzzle, Alfons Eyckmans, has kindly given his permission for this new puzzle design to be shared for personal use. It is released here under a non-commercial licence. Please respect this. 

This is a 6 piece puzzle.  You need to print 3 copies of Spies_8_08_010_S1.stl and one each of the other three pieces.

The puzzle is Level:24.4.3.3.3 which means it takes 24 moves to get the last piece in during assembly (or 24 moves to get the first piece out during disassembly).

Use the included Burr Tools file to see the solution if you need help (you probably will need help!)

Many puzzle pieces have complex shapes with inevitable overhangs whichever way you orient them. I would like to try soluble support material but I don't yet have dual extruder printing capability. Ordinary support material leaves nasty marks on the downward-facing surfaces.

My latest idea was to split the piece horizontally through the middle and print the two halves facing upwards with a custom connecting joint on top of each piece. The joint consists of a triangular peg next to a triangular hole, all contained within the outline of a single cube.
The prototype was first modelled in Tinkercad and then transferred to OpenSCAD for easier customisation.

Lockblock - printable connector

I am proud to present a new Printable Interlocking Puzzle Cube, but this time I didn't design it.  

Following the release of PIP#2, I was contacted by Bram Cohen (puzzle designer and author of the BitTorrent protocol) asking whether I had found any printable interlocking puzzle cube designs with a level higher than 1, i.e. needing more than a single move to take the first piece out.  

This sounded like a great challenge and I set about about trying to design one but then Bram beat me to it - not once but twice. As Bram commented in his email, " the main thing causing difficulties is that the printed bottom of the pieces can't be facing the outside directly, because then they can just be pulled off as the first move, but because the bottom must by definition have the most voxels, putting those on the interior makes it very hard to fill up all the external voxels and not stuff shut the internal voxels."  

His first attempt was a level 2 puzzle cube but that was quickly superseded by this very clever level 4 design.

The puzzle is composed of three nested layers of dodecahedra.
The challenge is to crack Plato's egg into its constituent parts, find and disassemble the trisected dodecahedron at the centre, then put it back together again.
Each of the three stages requires a degree of coordinate motion.
The white of the egg is particularly hard to disassemble by hand but will easily come apart by spinning the egg on the table.

You will need to print:
3 of the Shell pieces in light brown
2 of the White A pieces in white or clear
2 of the White B pieces in white or clear
3 of the Yolk pieces in yellow

Cracked! (Plato's Egg) puzzle

This new puzzle was published on Puzzle Will Be Played earlier this year. Six identical pieces can be combined using a sequence of 9 steps to make the traditional burr puzzle shape.  
Initially, I overlooked this as a non-printable puzzle but yesterday I noticed that if the pieces are rotated vertically they should print perfectly well.

If you are interested in a more challenging variant of this puzzle, Logan  has just published Lynxes of Spain and Lynxes of Portugal which also look printable and reuse some of these pieces in combination with some new ones.

This version of David Gontier's excellent Interlocking Puzzle Cube #1 was rendered in puzzlecad which provides the additional option of adding a bevel, but only on the external edges. (Burr Tools still insists on adding a bevel on the internal angles which severely affects the movement of interlocking pieces.)  Adding a bevel is a great way of mitigating against the problems of bulging corners and elephant's foot on the bottom layer, both of which can impede movement of the pieces.

Here I have used settings of 15 mm cubelet width, 0.08 mm offset size and 1.0 mm bevel, which gives a nice 60 mm cube that moves beautifully.

My copy of BigBox Hybrid Dual Fan Alternative by GregoryHolloway printed in black Edge filament was wilting in the heat between the two hot end blocks.
I decided to try and modify the blower ducts to provide a shorter, straighter path to both nozzles. I'm still testing it out but it seems to work well so far.
Still uses the standard BigBox Hybrid mountings and 40x40x20 Blower Fan.
