Which cantilever can be 3D printed? There is a general rule of thumb when it comes to 3D printing cantilevers. The angle of the overhang must not exceed 45°. This is to make sure that each successive layer has enough support. This also means that at 45° the 3D model prints well because each layer is in about 50% contact with the layer below.

But now comes the question, is your printer capable of printing more than 45° without dying in the attempt?

Performing an overhang test is a good way to find out what types of angles your printer can successfully create without using supports. This overhang test print has a series of increasing angles to show at what point the printer begins to have trouble. Results from this test will help determine the Max Overhang Angle used for support generation.

  • Line Width : 0.4
  • Wall Line Count : 3
  • Top/Bottom Thickness : 0.8 mm
  • Enable Retraction : True
