These are scale models of fences and gates I make for my clients. They are all created at 1:25.4 scale: 1 mm in the model represents 1" in real life. The lumber is all nominal 1x1s, 2x4s and 4x4s and the fence boards are all nominal 1x8x6s. The actual size of these are:
- 1x1 is 0.75" x 0.75"
- 2x4 is 1.625" x 3.625"
- 4x4 is 3.625" x 3.625"
- 1x8 is 0.75" x 7.5"
I show these models to clients to help them understand their choices. I make more designs than these, but these are the most common. I do intend to add a few more here as I get time to create and print them.
The current list includes:
- "Least cost" fence section and gates - all fence boards on one side, next to each other
- “Board-over-board least cost” fence section and gates, all fence boards on one side, but they overlap each other by ½" for maximum privacy (you cannot see between boards)
- “Good Neighbor” fence section and gate looks the same (mirrored) on each side of the fence. These use 1x1s to retain the fence boards.
- Custom Lattice made from 7/16" structural lattice framed with 2x4s and retained with in the center by 1x1s around all edges on both sides. Some of these need supports and the .3mf files include organic supports for them. Most merely use a brim for stability as they are printed vertically.
I printed these in Light Brown Overture Matte PLA with a first layer temp of 215 and all other layers at 190. This prevents stringing, except for the lattice, which always has stringing. I'm kinda surprised that the lattice prints at all. I thought about printing them with wood PLA, but brown is close enough for my needs.
