Hello everyone, I'm sharing my latest project with you. The model is entirely 3D printed; no external parts or glue are needed. It was created using Rhino and printed with Bambulab X1C using Sunlu Matte PLA.

M3D - Love Bug

This is a mix of the [Impossible Gear Fidget](https://social.thangs.com/m/700537) and the [Planetary Gear Demo]( https://thangs.com/designer/3dprintingworld/3d-model/Mini%20Planetary%20Gear%20Print-in-Place%20Demo-50395).  This fidget uses planetary gears, it’s a great way to better understand how they work. 

**Demonstration**
If you hold the carrier(middle gear) and turn the sun(top gear), you get at 3:1 speed reduction.  This ratio is a result of  the 36 teeth on the ring gear divided by the 12 teeth on planet gears. If you hold the ring(bottom gear) and turn the sun(top gear), you get a 1:4 speed reduction on the carrier(middle gear). The is because the much larger diameter ring gear is moving faster than the smaller sun gear. The equation works out to be the 36 teeth of the ring gear divided by the 12 teeth of the planet gear plus 1. If you hold the sun gear and spin the ring gear and the carrier, there is no reduction and it acts like a bearing

This is a mix of the [Impossible Gear Fidget](https://social.thangs.com/m/700537) and the [Planetary Gear Demo]( https://thangs.com/designer/3dprintingworld/3d-model/Mini%20Planetary%20Gear%20Print-in-Place%20Demo-50395). **_Printing Guidelines_**

Fairly loose requirements, just make sure your printer isn't overextruding and has decent cooling so none of the parts fuse. I used 0.16mm layer height, 3 shells. No supports!

It turns out you _can_ print pretty good guitar picks with the right filaments! I tested various materials and found PC to be the most durable, with ABS and PETG-CF also working quite well. **Printing Guidelines**

The multicolor parts are designed for use with multi-material printers. I used the BambuLab X1C and AMS along with BambuLab filaments.

Print solid, 0.12mm - 0.16mm layer height, 2 shells, ironing on top surfaces (optional)

Grippy Guitar Pick // 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm Thicknesses

This chameleon looks like it's popping out of the wall tiles - however, this print is only 2mm thick, and the illusion is the result of the amazing colour blending from the different filament colours! 

The 3MF will have all necessary filament swaps already coded in if you're using Bambu studio. If you're not, you can download the STL in the attachments, and follow the following instructions: 

**Print Instructions**
Print at 100% infill with a layer height of 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.2mm

**Filaments Used:**
- PLA Kingroon Black Transmission Distance: 0.4
- PLA Siddament Purple Sparkle Transmission Distance: 5
- PLA Sunlu Lilac Transmission Distance: 6.6
- PLA Kingroon White Transmission Distance: 8

**Swap Instructions:**
- Start with Black
- At layer #11 (1mm) swap to Purple
- At layer #13 (1.16mm) swap to Lilac
- At layer #19 (1.64mm) swap to White for the rest.

If you don't have or don't want to install LED's you can just glue the parts together and have an awesome sign!

WARNING!

- remove purge line at the beginning of the print, it may interfere, specially with bigger prints!






Materials and tools:
- glue gun
- aluminum tape
- led strip (here is the one I use): simple 1m white led USB

- soldering iron (optional)



RECOMMENDATIONS

- use a textured PEI sheet
- remove purge line at the beginning of the print!
- use the print profile, it has quite a few setting changes that help achieve the best results
- make a hole for the USB strip wherever you like it best with a soldering iron, drill or in the slicer

- use the aluminum tape on the inside of the backplate to help with light diffusion
- glue the LED's the further away from the colored design possible; placing them too close ruins the diffusion and the individual LED's become visible

Bambu Studio Settings:
I always recommend using the print profile I provided since it has settings with which I've been able to get the best results.
If you choose not to here are the main slicer settings I recommend:
- preferences (ctrl + P) → activate developer settings → Quality →Advanced → First Layer Flow Ratio: 1.04 to 1.08
- Quality → Wall generator → Arachne
- Quality → Wall transitioning threshold angle → 30º to 50º
- Strength → Advanced → Infill/wall overlap → 20% to 25%
- Increasing retraction / reducing temperature can help reducing wisps
- Order color printing from lightest to darkest color
