Mercer Overclock
Mercer Age: 19 | Role: Strategy & Muscle The oldest by enough years that it matters. Quietly respected, rarely loud about it. Has one foot out the door toward something more legitimate but the district keeps pulling him back in.
Was accepted into a technical apprenticeship program across the city at 17. Deferred it to help the crew survive a bad winter. Has been deferring it ever since.
Mercer secretly makes excellent soup. Nobody outside the crew is allowed to know this.
Overclock A six-strong crew operating out of the dead infrastructure fringe of a near-future city that forgot they existed. They're not gangsters in any traditional sense - no turf wars, no dealing. What they do is take back - access, components, data, dignity. Every member brings a precise skill and the collective is tighter for it. Their layered, greeble-heavy fits started as utility and became uniform. In a district the city wrote off, Overclock became the closest thing to a functioning institution. Mercer keeps them grounded. Sable keeps them safe. The rest keep things moving.
The Haul — A Recent Job A decommissioned city logistics hub three blocks from their district had been sitting dark for eighteen months. Officially empty. Unofficially, a mid-tier corp had been using it as an off-books cold storage site for unregistered hardware — components the city should have redistributed to underserved districts and quietly didn't. Sable clocked the thermal signatures on a routine scan. Splice cracked the access credentials in an afternoon. Patch fabricated bypass keys for the internal locks from memory. The night they moved, Dray ran the perimeter twice before giving the clear — nervous energy turned into something useful. Casket pulled the hardware with the kind of care most people reserve for living things. Mercer stood at the exit and said nothing, which meant everything was fine. They were inside for eleven minutes. The components went back into the district - powering three community relay nodes that had been dark for two years. Overclock didn't tag the walls or leave a calling card. The nodes coming back online was the calling card.
