I've had the original [Rail](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/The%20Rail-1144868) mounted in my studio and home for about a year now and while it looks and functions wonderfully, I noticed some room for improvement. So here's version 2!

In the first design, printed set screws held the brackets and attachments to the dowel. Now, the design doesn’t need set screws at all, making it faster to print, easier to install, and cleaner looking.

The top and bottom brackets have closed ends that sandwich the dowel in place, and the sliding dovetail attachment is secured with a small wedge inserted from the bottom.

You'll notice there are two sizes of Sliding Dovetail Attachments. **The larger size fits all of my large wall mounted planters** as well as the small size if it has the new under-mount drip tray ([Example](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/Wall%20Planter%20with%20Hidden%20Drip%20Tray%20-%20LG02-1305480)).

If you're using a small size of the original design ([Example](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/Quilted%20Planter-994217)), use the small Dovetail Attachment.

**How to mount to your wall**

1. Slide dovetail attachments onto dowel
2. If using the wedge dovetails, insert wedge into attachments from the bottom. Use a flat head screwdriver to push the wedge all the way in and secure the attachment to the rail. If using set screw dovetails, tighten the set screws using the printed coin or a quarter
3. Place top and bottom wall mounts on the ends of the rail
4. Insert the keyhole markers into the keyhole slots on the top and bottom wall mounts
5. Firmly press against wall in desired location and the keyhole markers will make an indent where you need to drill
6. Drill holes using a 1/4" drill bit
7. Insert wall anchors and screws (#10 - #12 x 1-1/4" screws and anchors)
8. Make sure the screw head is sticking out just far enough to tightly fit in the keyholes. Use the included depth gauge to determine the distance the screw head should be sticking out.
9. Attach rail to the wall
10. Slide planters on to attachments

**Supports**
Supports are needed for the flat overhang on the back of the planters

**Scaling**
This cannot be scaled because the keyhole slots are specifically designed for #10 - #12 x 1-1/4" screws and anchors.

- Everything prints upright with its flat bottom on the build plate

- .2mm layer height
- 15% grid infill
- 2 walls
- Set bridge flow to 1.6 for drip tray
- .1mm layer height for wedge

This is a refined version of the [Modular Wall Light](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/Modular%20Wall%20Light-1122599). I've created a collection for this since I'll be adding a bunch of new attachments. Everything will be available in [The Rail collection here](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/collection/The%20Rail-73338).

Two main updates:
1. Set screws now have larger threads that should hold up better over time and screw in easier.
2. Decreased the thickness of knob on the set screws.
2. Planters have been updated with a more refined shape instead of just a cylinder.

I'll be updating previous attachments with the new threads, but they all still fit a 1" dowel, so if you've already printed parts from the Modular Wall Light or the [Tap Task Lamp](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/Tap%20Task%20Lamp-1115015), you can still use them!

This is designed to be used with a 1" (or 25mm) dowel, but I've also included a printable dowel that prints in two parts and threads together.

It mounts to the wall with two #8 - #10 x 1" screws spaced 16" apart vertically if using the 3D printed dowel, or 34" apart if using a standard 36" wood dowel. The wall mount collars fit onto the screws with keyhole slots.

A couple notes for successful printing:
- The set screws should be printed with a 99% infill

**Supports**
None needed!

**Scaling**
I wouldn't recommend scaling anything on this one since it's all designed to fit together.

**Orientation**
Everything prints upright with its bottom on the build plate.

A modular wall light with multiple attachments (more coming soon!). Can also be used with a 1" (or 25mm) dowel. Current attachments:
- Pendant light socket housing (can be used with a normal 9W LED bulb or a 9W LED grow bulb)
- Small planter
- Rechargeable tap light housing
- Pencil cup

A couple notes for successful printing:

- The set screws should be printed with a 99% infill
- The tap light housing can either print in place or you can use the ball and socket version. If using the print in place version, the default seams will want to be placed on the inside corners of the swivel mechanism. I'd recommend painting your seams somewhere else to allow a clean gap on the swivel mechanism.

**Supports**
Tree supports are needed for the USB-C charger opening on the tap light housing. Supports are not necessary for anything else.

**Scaling**
I wouldn't recommend scaling anything on this one since it's all designed to fit together.

**Orientation**
The light housing print upside down. The base, extension rod, and set screw print upright.
