Fidget
1986’s The Great Mouse Detective, Disney’s 26th animated feature, introduced audiences to one of the most chaotic and memorable sidekicks in animation. Fidget, the scrappy, peg-legged bat, serves as the right-hand lackey to the sinister Professor Ratigan. With his raspy voice, twitchy movements, and unhinged energy, Fidget adds both humor and tension to the film.
Tasked with kidnapping toymaker Hiram Flaversham and gathering supplies for Ratigan’s evil plot, Fidget is relentless but far from flawless. His clumsy nature and nervous disposition often land him in trouble, especially when going up against Basil of Baker Street. Despite his shortcomings, his loyalty to Ratigan never wavers, though his constant chattering and bumbling antics make him an easy target for his master’s wrath.
Fidget’s wild expressions, manic laughter, and unpredictable movements make him one of Disney’s most distinct henchmen. Whether sneaking through a toy shop or frantically flapping his wings in fear, he brings a sense of frantic energy to every scene he’s in.
