Possibly based on a "snake stick", the wAs sceptre is a ubiquitous symbol of power and dominion, particularly over chaotic forces (such as serpents, whose heads can be pinned down and controlled by it's forked bottom), and is never far from the hands of Gods and Pharaohs. It is not by coincidence that it bears close resemblance to the Netjer Set, who before his demonization in the later periods of the culture, represented the same positive qualities of the sceptre.
