Inspired by a beloved pet crayfish that made a daring escape from its aquarium and was never seen again, this model is both a tribute and a recreation, capturing its appearance, movement, and character. Designed from the ground up with realism, articulation, and printability in mind, this project took about 80 hours of design work over three weeks, followed by another 30 hours of testing, refinement, and iteration. One of the biggest challenges was shaping the sharp, pointed leg tips without sacrificing organic looks or reliable printing. Striking that balance took several rounds of revision.

V4 and V5 are the most refined releases, offering the best balance of appearance, articulation, durability, and ease of assembly.

Antennas as Claw Lock Pins

The antennas can also serve as claw lock pins. Print an extra pair and carefully trim the tips until a snug fit is achieved. This provides a simple and effective way to secure the claws for stationary poses.

Fitting Small Parts

For the antennas, eyes, and maxillipeds, lightly sand or trim the connection tips to achieve a clean, tight fit. This method is recommended over scaling the parts down, as it preserves the intended proportions and detail.
