This is probably my favourite ever print (and I've printed a 6'1" Saturn 5 rocket lol. I've been printing for 7 years, and this is seriously the best. It just works. Everything is designed so well by you, Loftedgoods. For those in Australia, Bunnings sell the 25.4mm dowel. This is the 1.8m cut in half. Worked perfectly.

Those look nice, did you design the wall anchors in the middle of the rail? I've been looking for something similar for a larger rail print I'd like to do.

Our printer wasn't big enough to handle the large pot so we used four small. The drip trays for the pots don't fit very well, but I'm using succulents so don't really anticipate a lot of reason to have to be able to pull them out but they sit in their fine. They're just not smooth and they didn't lock in. We used gold simply because my kid had leftover gold filament from printing a crown for Halloween. Thought the walnut dowel would look nice with the gold and I like how it came out.

I'll always update designs if there are small improvements or additions to make it function/print better. This version took a lot of time and testing and I also included a new planter with it. Totally understand where you're coming from but this is a new design from my perspective.

What's the connection plug, and the coin for? I didn't see either of those in your video or images

Erik S

They are for the 9 inch rail, you can print multiple of them and connect them with the connection plug, they have a threaded holes at each end.

Bryan B

What is the purpose of the "wedge small" vs "wedge slim"? I see the wedge slim fits the pots in the package download for the small pots.

From what I understood, the small one is for some older models (probably V1 of the rail).

Maybe a dumb question, but what is the purpose of the coin and the end plug in the v2 design? If printing the rod, won't the rod be covered by the end caps, so not sure why these two parts are needed.

Brian H
LoftedGoods

Welcome! You'll need to print everything on the plate labeled "Wall Brackets + Keyhole Markers". Beyond that, it's up to you how many pots you want to attach to the dowel. Each pot prints in 3 parts - the Rail Pot, Inner Pot, and Drip Tray. Then you can print a dovetail attachment and wedge for each pot. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Printed these in OVERTURE Easy Rock White PLA (with black liners) and they came out so much nicer than I could have hoped for. I did use a .50 Nozzle with .35 layer heights so I did edit the dovetails a bit just to get the fit looser. I used a 28" long dowel with the 3 pots shown. Overall this is such a nice quality print... hopefully now I can keep the plants alive.

Amy S
vanbridge1995

Sorry for the dumb question, but which dovetail attachment should I use to work with the pots included in the files? I see one called "small" and one called "slim" In the description you say "You'll notice there are two sizes of Sliding Dovetail Attachments. The larger size fits all of my large wall mounted planters" - is "the larger size" the "small" or the "slim" file? Thanks!

Brian H
LoftedGoods

If the drip tray looks like this - the large size planter will fit on the larger attachment, but you'll need to use the smaller dovetail attachment if you want to use the smaller planter.

Brian H
LoftedGoods

The larger size dovetail fits both the Large and Small planters included in the 3mf! I realize this is kind of confusing. To clarify:

If the drip tray on the planter looks like this - both large and small planters will fit on the larger attachment.

Amy S
vanbridge1995

And just to be 100% sure, the "larger" size of dovetail is the file called "Dovetail Attachment Wedge Slim"?

Omar Q

I have printed this out and it looks great. It's already hanging on the wall. But I'm wondering if the small pot is the smallest pot available? Can we get a smaller one? I was at home depot the other day and I saw like 2in succulents, so wondering if we can get a pot in that size with a small tray.

S
SwishPlop

I just downloaded the file and am printing now but have what may be a dumb question for anyone who has already made one of these. Once the mounting brackets are on the dowel and the wedge is in, is there a way to remove it so that you can move the pots around or change them out?

Peter M
peter.melton

My one inch dowel does not fit. Idk what is up.

Daniel D
ddvorak87

Just did my first prints of everything! The tolerances are SUPER tight at least for the large pot and dovetail. Do you typically do some clean up with sandpaper to get them to slide easier? Or is there a print setting to help with this?

Gordon

I have to ask, what's the point of the small dovetail rail part. Both the large and small planters connect to the large one. Can someone explain this to me?

S
SwishPlop

It's for legacy pots he has released previously. not for the pots included in this file or any of his recent designs.

Tom

Which size dowel are these for? I notice in your v2 tripod you mention the 3 different sizes of dowel but then you dont say what size youre using here? from v2 tripod page "Included files for 1", 25mm, and 23mm dowels."

Hi, Would you be willing to share the step files? I would like to add some small adjustments - chamfers, adjustable rod hole dia etc and this would be quicker than doing it to the mesh files.

Jon S

Hi, Any chance you would release the .step files for these. I would love to make some personal minor adjustments and it would be so much easier rather than converting mesh (STL) files. Just things like adding chamfers and adjusting the hole dia for rod etc.

Marco

Hello,

I printed both the large and small rail pots and the rail grow light attachment. However, regardless of which component I print, the 25 mm diameter/wedge does not fit properly. The inner diameter is too large, which makes the wedge too small. Because of this, the pots simply slide down the rail instead of staying in place. If you could help me to fix this problem, I would be very happy about that.

Rodolfo A

Hi, I love this design and I've printed large and small pots for my plants, but I was hoping to use these for my orchids but the small planter is too small, and the large one is way too large. As you know, orchids require a pot with holes, which is why I was hoping to use the same pot they have and just put it inside the outer pot from your design. Is there a way to have a medium size planter?

Is the rail actually 3D printed with 9in rails and connection plugs or is it simply a 25mm dowel? Since the 9in rail file exists I assume you can 3D print the rail but I have some questions: is standard PLA with 15% infill in the rail itself (100% for connection plugs) good or will it bend too much? If so would infill fix the problem or should i modify a wall collar to make it hollow and install in in the middle of the rail? Recently got into 3D printing, mostly because of your stuff TBH

These models are fantastic. I love the thought and the detail gone into them, and being a plant grower I can see endless possibilities! A few bits I've noticed that might be helpful. The actual plants don't seem to accommodate existing plant pot sizes (if there is some sort of standard??) so whenever I take one of my existing plants and try to put them in with their existing pot, they stick out or don't quite fit in. What about an Ikea Skadis mount too?

Alexey P

What’s the main purpose or advantage of using the inner pot in this design? To me, it feels a bit unnecessary and a waste of filament. I’m thinking of replacing the inner pot with just its bottom section and adding a TPU ring for better water sealing. Am I missing an important benefit of keeping the full inner pot?

Kyle
RSwan

It's easier to remove the plant from the rail or rearrange them without having to slide everything off. That's all I can figure. These leak bad though, I modified the design to remove the drip tray because I'm bad at over watering.

H

James K

Hello, can you please let me know what diameter dowel to use for this? Thank you for your help I appreciate it.

Alexey P

Hi! It’s designed for a 1-inch (25.4 mm) diameter dowel.

In my case, that size was impossible to find — the closest I could get was 22 mm. So, I decided to print the Dovetail Attachment part with a –2 mm X-Y hole compensation in Orca Slicer. The only adjustment I needed afterward was to split the wedge in slicer, since the wedge recess in the Dovetail Attachment became half as large due to the compensation.

Matthew C

can you use a resin printer with these plz?

Mikołaj C
elsonadounsueno

Very nice design but with some tweaking to do - one thing i noticed is that the rail pots are quite shallow... I mean standard 10cm production pot is around 10cm high, while your rail pot is only ~8cm in depth - same thing for bigger version. I had to modify rail pots to make them higher, and also modified it so it can be used without insert - just by adding flat ridge for pots to lay on or to drop simple plate on it - saves a lot of time and filament.

Also pls consider medium variant (12-13cm)

Maarten V
maarten.vlug

Just printed a whole set and everything fits very well. I did redesign the big inner pot, because I think its very thick, thus consumes a lot of time and filament. The rest is perfect! Thanks.

Margarita C

Can you share how you did that? I am currently printing the inner pot and was thinking it's so thick.

M
mo-seph

This would be an amazing base for a vertical hydroponics setup - just putting a hose connector in the drip tray and an equivalent hole in the pot would let you pump water in at the top and have it flow down the pots on the Rail. With a bit of hose management, it could be super clean.

Natalia U
ujlakinati

Love the design, I'm super excited to assemble it. I'm making it into a floor-to-ceiling pot stand though using the 2.4m tall dowel (I designed the bottom and top parts - we'll see if they work). One question tough: once I slide in the little wedge, there is no way to remove it or change the dovetail's position, right?

Tay J

I am a beginner and i need help. The file that i got contains all the different parts of the product. Which parts are considered to be a "set" for a planter?

Martin H
info5657

Is there a chance for a medium version? The small one is too small for most plants, and the large one is way too big. Something around 12 cm inner diameter would be perfect.   Alternatively a version without the mount at the back (and the mount part as seperate part) then you could just scale it yourself and put it together.   For the Triptray it would also be great if it didn’t take so much force to turn (I modified the tabs a bit on mine)

Martin H
info5657

And since I’m already here: any idea for a small watering can, or for some kind of holder/stand for a small watering can (similar to the new tray)?   And a version with 2 mounts (in a V shape at 45°), so you can hang two small/medium pots at the same height.

Marky M
markymaarty

Hi there,

I just had a couple of quick questions:

  1. How many 3D models do you typically release each month, regardless of tier?

  2. Regarding your Rail V2 model, it printed perfectly on my end with smooth results and no visible issues. However, I noticed the tension feels very tight when locking the bottom piece. I tried rotating it several times to see if it would loosen, but it stayed the same. Once I lock the drip tray with the clicking sound, it’s very difficult to twist it back to unlock

Marky M
markymaarty

Will it work on PVC pipe? https://a.co/d/fxjRiD7

James C
enigma644

It for sure won't work on that pipe as the 1" is in the inside diameter. You'd need something with a 1" outside diameter. I think you'd be fine using plastic pipe instead of wood, but you'll likely have to jam the wedges in a bit harder as the plastic will have less friction.

Jorge G

RK
Ruslan Karsiev

Hi there.

Could you please tell me what’s the difference between Wedge and Wedge for 25mm Dowel, which one fits for Dovetail Slim?

As an idea, how about rail in horizontal?

Kyle
RSwan

A warning to others in case you make the same mistake I did. The pots are not water tight and if you put more water in than the tray can hold, it will leak onto whatever is under it. I would have modified the pots with flat bottoms had I thought of it!

Unless I'm missing something or if anyone has any thoughts on this?

Adam K
adkesmetis

I just started printing this and can't wait to mount it to the wall. However, I am a bit confused about the "Dovetail Attachments". I am only using the Large and Small Rail Pots from this specific download, so do I use the "Dovetail Attachment Wedge Small" or the "Dovetail Attachment Wedge Slim"? Or is one for the included "Rail Pot - Large" and the other for the "Rail Pot - Small"?

Also, you mention "The larger size fits all of my large wall mounted planters as well as the small size if it has the new under-mount drip tray". Which is the larger size one, "Dovetail Attachment Wedge Small" or the "Dovetail Attachment Wedge Slim"?

Kyle
RSwan

The Dovetail Slim will hold both small and large pots. The one labeled "Slim" is larger than "Small".

ZW
zacharywatson2000

Hey, just wondering if there's meant to be a file for the larger inner pot, my folder only seems to have the inner small. Or is there a percentage I should scale this up for the larger pot?

Sam K
samkerr25

What size wooden dowel are you using? I purchased a 1inch diameter one and it’s just a little too large. The dovetails can only be pushed down about an inch onto it before they’re impossible to move further

Jordan M
jordan.martinez

Is your printer calibrated correctly and printing accurately? could be your printer is off slightly. Or the dowel may need some sanding. I had some high spots on my dowels. sanded them down and the dovetails moved more freely after that.

H
haindl

What length of dowel do you recommend and what is the maximal length you consider sensible?

Spencer M
spencer.d.mcintosh

Just downloaded V2 and I am printing it right now, very excited! One addition I thought would be great to have is just a flat, sort of platform like attachment that would fit into the dove tail. Then it could be a little display shelf for small decorative items or even a little platform for keys if you put it by the door! Please let me know if this is something you would ever consider adding!

Hi, I just purchased this, the only thing that doesn't fit my printer size is the '9 in rail' can you clarify what role that plays in the design? looking at your picture i don't see a rail, i see the wooden dowel. So is the rail just there if someone didn't want to use a wooden dowel? do i need to print it?

Daniel A
daniel.j.adams2

Your assumption is correct, it's a printed alternative to a dowel.

Brian H
LoftedGoods

That's right! I included a printable dowel on the off chance that someone didn't want to use a wooden one or didn't have the ability to buy one. Highly recommend using a wooden dowel though.

T
tsteeze

I downloaded the rail v2 and have successfully printed two small pots, the corresponding drip trays, and printed two ends for the dowel. I have printed every dovetail listed within in the downloads and they are all too small for the small pots I have printed. Can you help me figure out where I went wrong?

Brian H
LoftedGoods

If you printed the two small pots in the 3mf, you'll want to use the larger dovetail attachment on the plate labeled "Sliding Dovetail Attachment + Wedge". If that's what you printed and they're still not fitting, it may be a settings or filament issue. Feel free to reach out to me on Discord and I'll try my best to help out!

Emily G
emily.gomez.va

I'm super excited about this project, everything seems so well thought out. I am running into trouble though getting the pots to slide onto the dovetail piece. I have tried filing any edges or rough areas, printing in 3 different colors, and sizing the dovetail up 1%. I feel like if I keep sizing the dovetail up incrementally I can probably eventually get it to work, but I've already printed 4 of them and I hate to keep wasting material. I would appreciate any tips to get this to work!

Posting an update here in case anyone else runs into this problem - I solved this by changing the Horizontal Expansion to -0.2 on the outer pot! I also did this with the wedge and the keyhole marker. It all fits great with that adjustment.

Hey! If you're printing the correct files, they should all fit together perfectly, so it sounds like it may be a printer/settings/filament issue. If you send me a message on Discord I'll do my best to get this to work for you!

Hi, I really loved this design - keep up the good work! Any recommendations on how I could adjust the diameter of the Dovetail Attachment and Wall Collars. The wood dowels that the store had were 19.5mm in diameter and this design is for 25mm.

Hey reach out to me on discord and I'll see what I can do for you!

the little piece that locks the dovetail is missing to download

The wedge is in the 3mf and the individual files! It's on the same plate as the dovetail attachment. The wedge for 25mm dowels is in the individual files.

I just downloaded this version, however, the depth gauge for the screws is not included in the files.

Thanks for the heads up! Just added it to the files and updated the 3mf as well. Sorry about that!

Is the wood rail printed too?

I recommend using a real wood dowel (you can find these at any big box hardware store) but I did include a printable dowel that threads together if you prefer that.

Can you please share the size (width and height) of the dowel you used shown in your photos? Thank you.

And height would be totally at your discretion, it will work for any length of dowel. Whatever suits your space, I imagine.

Based on what I've seen and the print I just did, the dowel is 1 inch or 25mm in diameter. And there are two different wedges in the download files to accommodate either.

Like everyone else has asked several times. How long is the wooden rod that you used?
