Having trouble with your child's screen time, these tokens help by applying control whilst allowing your child to remain independent. It also opens a conversation for talk goal setting and what you and your child is an appropriate amount of screen time per day.

The Tokens can also be used for tablets or phone time.

The tokens can be made to display 20 minute, 30 minute, 40 minutes or 1 Episode.

For the tokens, I make a filament change at 1mm & then again around 2.2mm to get the multicoloured effect.

Enjoy.

I saw this pop up on Reddit. Stopped by to download and like. Good job and great design.

This is awesome! I love the color you printed it with, the speckled white and grey. What color/material is it?

Stephen C

Its the Bambu Marble PLA and some E-Sun Matte Green and Pink. I think the blue was also E-Sun

This is a cool concept, I know for sure when I was a kid, having something to work toward that has a physical representation of my completion of things and gamifying chores or whatever like I'd have seen as a challenge and wanting to earn as many of these things as possible.

Oh I love this idea. I'm going to save this for when my kid is a bit older, and then totally implement this.

Interesting concept!

Some questions: how do the kids get the tokens? Do they earn them? Do they lose them when misbehaving? Can they trade them amongst each other? Exchange them for other things? Save them for later? What age group are you targeting? Is this a solution to end endless debates about screen time?

As a parent dealing with the constant tug of war about screen time I welcome your approach. I'm going to discuss this with my kids wether we should try it out.

Thanks for sharing!

Stephen C

Thanks. Currently we use them to manage time in front of the television. We have a discussion including the little one an agree a healthy amount of time to spend in front of the TV and allocate tokens. I tend to use the episode tokens. This gives him the responsibility of rationing his TV use for the day, and ends the debate on "One more episode" conversations. When he's a little older we plan to use the same agreement, however certain tokens will be withheld until certain chores are done.

Utterly horrible. Dystopian even. Here's this monopoly money, Timmy, it represents fun. No I can't just watch the show with you or play the game with you or god forbid do something else outside with a ball or inside with toys together etc. I'm gonna teach you the value of mon- err having proper parents (by showing you you don't have them)

Edit: you even filed this under toys? This is awful.

Cool idea @Jurassic Design Labs, dont let this thunder-douche bring you down. If anything, they brought more attention to your work. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback.

I appreciate your perspective and understand the importance of spending quality time with my children, encouraging them to engage in various activities, both indoors and outdoors. This product is designed to help teach children about the concept of earning rewards for their efforts, similar to how board games like Monopoly can be used as educational tools to understand real-world principles such as earning money in exchange for work.

@Rocio

"Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You are not being forced to use this method. You can now go fuck yourself."

It’s hardly dystopian, I don’t think you know what the term means.

Parent: “Johnny come and eat your dinner”.

Johnny: “You can’t opressor me, I choose to watch television, you can provide me with my choice of food, and it better be hot, after I have watched the full season of Teletubbies, and give me $100 for the latest PS5 game”.

There is nothing wrong with teaching children values, otherwise they just put stupid comments on thangs, without making any models themselves.

This is a 3D printing website, not a parenting forum. If you don't like the concept of rewarding kids for chores, tell people about that somewhere else. No one forces you to use this if it doesn't fit your parenting style. Your comment does not relate to the model.

Jesus wept, calm down. Managing kids' screen time is incredibly common thing to do, you don't have to like the concept but you don't have to belittle this guy's work over it.

In a world where there are several companies trying to hack brains to increase retention time on screens, entice kids to spend money on gambling and PVP games by, again, hacking the mind, and where an over abundance of screen time can really hurt a growing mind... you think limiting screen time, and making it a privilege rather than a right is dystopian? Is this Zuckerberg's alt account?

Show us your models then.

By the way your github is pathetic. Go fuck yourself, argentino de mierda.

toidisangleiramoicor

What? It's the Gold Star System in card form it has been around for decades. I have no idea what mental gymnastics it took for you to go from innocent reward system to poor parenting but maybe find help or Jesus.

Do you advocate for screen-fried young brain ? You have a nanny-TV perhaps ? If the child help his parents, this change almost nothing, but it is a lazy cabbage, it will change everything. It can even make him realize that, if he sacrifices useless screen time, he can profit and do nothing.

You could have just said to yourself, this isn’t for me, and kept moving instead of making a comment.

If you think screens are the only way your kids can have fun you've completely failed as a parent. Also half of what you've said here makes no f*cking sense. Learn how to speak properly before putting something else down. I hope you have the day you deserve.

I just dropped by to like this, given the feedback of one specific naysayer. These are great! Wish they had been available when my kids were younger.

A Reddit echo-chamber is an interesting way of dealing with criticism.

A
anonymousmoniker

Asking for advice on your item is fair after you get particularly harsh critique. It's not like people are commenting on your cookie cutter and questioning your teaching skills.

Yes, I can hear you now - "I wouldn't care!" - but unfortunately your models don't have enough comments to know that for sure.

Thanks for linking the debate. I was hoping for more feedback and I sure got it.

It was misdirected criticism, instead of critiquing the print, they attacked their parenting methods. Pretty sure that isn’t what this website is for, or did I misclick and end up on parentingopinions.com? And it’s not really an echo chamber, most decent human beings would agree that the “criticism” was unwarranted and unproductive. Post this anywhere and you’d end up with the same results.

I love this! It makes a concept that is hard to grasp/ intangible (screen time) more concrete and easy to understand. I work with kids with special needs and understanding concepts that are not concrete/ tangible can be very difficult- this makes it so much easier and I will absolutely be using these with my clients that like to earn screen time. Also- I have worked with neurotypical kids and this would be damn good for them as well, any kind of cool visual to trade in will be well loved! :)
