This is a simple to use foam dart cutting jig. The main purpose of this is to cut darts in half for use with shell fed blasters, like the Battle Axe that uses Silly Shells.
There are two parts: Main body: where the dart sits and provides a tin slit to fit a breakaway razor.
Depth Fence: slides into the main body and can be secured in place by one M3x20 bolt. Allows you to set where on the dart to cut and lock it in for repeated cutting.
Print settings: PLA is fine, or PETG. Print at 0.2mm height with 3 walls and 10% gyroid/crosshatch infill.
For the depth fence: You can either print this part separately from the main body OR… In your slicer, isolate the part in the ‘per object’ settings. (In bambu/orca slicer, that's the switch from global to objects. See Screenshot.) Change the print speed for the outer most wall to 20. This is to prevent inconsistent extrusion once the main body is done printing. There is still a bit of the guide rode ABOVE the main body and your printer will slow WAY down once it gets to that point. It causes a bit of a bump that makes things difficult to fit together. Setting it 20 for outer wall will make it consistent all the way up.
This jig is large enough to handle a Nerf Mega XL dart. You can cut any size dart in the jog. Just hold the dart against one of the walls and the fence while cutting.
Note: The tolerances are TIGHT on the main body and razor blade thicknesses vary. If you have difficulty fitting your razor blade in the slot, scale up the main body by 1-3%.
Enjoy!
