Print-in-place Bits Box

I created this bits box for our Arkham Horror Boardgame set which has a lot of different bits and many bits per type making it tempting to store everything in baggies. The dimensions of these boxes are designed to fill out the box in neat rows.

Here are some tips for this print:

  • When slicing, place it so the back of the box (with hinge) is up and the front face of the box with the latch is placed down, on the bed. As a bonus, this orientation makes it easy to add text to the front of the box to label your bits
  • It requires supports so the inside of the box doesn't collapse! As a result, the inside will get filled with the infill material, but it's easy to scoop out after you pry open the box.
  • When prying open the box, do it from under the latch like you were prying it open if it were locked. It may also be good to slip something between the lid and box to get it apart--I typically use and exacto or straight razor. See the attached video on YouTube to watch me pry open a new print.

The finished boxes are designed to stack neatly due to the recess at the top. As a side note, the hinge is designed to be stiff so it stays open but it quickly loosens up after limited use.

Have fun!
