This is a 3d-printable replica of the SMG 37 "Defender" from the videogame Helldivers 2 that is capable of firing Nerf darts. It is fully mechanical and does not require electricity to fire - it is powered by rubberbands! Each cartridge holds the energy to fire a dart, and will eject by itself once it has fired, just like the in-game weapon and other real life submachine guns.
Only rubberbands and filament is needed! The model does not need extra parts like screws, nuts or springs. The only extra parts that are needed are: 1mm thick exercise rubberbands Regular household rubberbands The extra parts that I recommend are TPU and PETG filament, aswell as rubber friendly lubricant.
No big printer is needed This model was printed with an A1-mini with a build volume of 180*180mm - but you will have to split one part ("ScopeRailMount")
Straight forward assembly The assembly is super easy and primarily consists of just plugging objects together. Every file for the objects are logically named with color, quantity and purpose of the object - which eases the assembly more.
No multi-filament system is needed The multi-coloured model is split in colours, so you don't need to use a mutli-filament system (like AMS). But you will need to do a mid-print filament change for the "SMG 37 Defender" text bar at layer 15 (0.2 layer height).
Jam Guide
-
Problem: Cartridge stuck halfway out of firing chamber Possible solution: Too much of "CartridgeCover"'s edge was removed. Replace the "CartridgeCover".
-
Problem: Dart getting stuck between barrel and cartridge - not exiting the cartridge fast enough. Possible solutions: The shock from the first cartridge being set off, sets off the next. Make sure "PlatformHook" has a bit of resistance when rotating it. Make sure it requires 230-350grams of pressure to set it off. Print TPU shock absorbers (highly recommended).
-
Problem: Dart hitting the wall of barrel Possible solutions: Make sure the dart is cut perfectly straight and is 3.9cm long. Check the "CartridgeCover" for print artifacts like blobs.
If a part is missing or there is an issue with the model, then feel free to contact me and I will resolve the issue quickly :)
