The Story Professor Chronosworth had sailed across three centuries of maps to reach this precise coordinate — every one of them whispering the same impossible rumor. He took one long breath and dove. The ocean swallowed him in layers: coral towers of amber and violet rising like cathedral spires, ribbons of electric blue fish parting around him, long shafts of sunlight carving purposefully down into the dark below. And then he saw what the light was reaching for. Half-swallowed by the seafloor, the lost city of Meridian emerged — broad stone avenues, colonnaded halls, ancient runes pulsing with a cold blue light along every step and lintel, as though the city had never stopped trying to be read. From the shadow of the tallest tower drifted something vast and unbothered: a giant octopus, its mantle the size of a sailing vessel, moving along the outer wall with the quiet authority of a creature that considered itself the city's rightful tenant. The professor hovered there, finning gently, watching a sea turtle drift overhead and the runes pulse once — slowly, like a breath — before uncapping his pen. Meridian is real, he wrote. It has simply been waiting — for the right kind of visitor, in the right kind of moment. He looked up at the sun still burning through the water far above, and smiled behind his diving mask. He had all the time in the world.
