This stylised version of Octiman was designed by Brett Horn 

When designing this model Brett has been able to bring the original 2D design to life while still adding a personal touch to the design. The base shapes draw from the original design, but the helmet, arms, and legs have been stylized. The helmet stands out due to its door like design. This really modernises the overall design and means that the helmet doesn’t have to be transparent or removable in order to see Octimans face. The arms and legs are articulated so you can position Octiman in a variety of poses all over your Maker space.  

Brett has also paid special attention to the orientation of the parts, the need for supports, and the clearance for interlocking parts. This design may be simple, but we love it.

No.10 - Futuristic Octiman

This mechanically themed Octiman was designed by Jarred Bothma. 

A truly unique design made to be as mechanically articulated as possible without making it structurally weak. The core of the design is a large bolt which functions as the legs and the pillar which the body is threaded onto. The arms have holes on the end to allow old MK8 nozzles to be used as hands to complement the Maker theme.  

Jarred is another entry level 3D designer who used Fusion360 and some YouTube tutorials to help them get a grasp on the software and produce this unique model.

No.9 - Mechanical Octiman

This Octiman brings together 3D Printing and electronics and was designed by Roche Barlow. 

This model brings together 2 things loved by Makers, 3D Printing and electronics, to create a functional and colourful figurine. If the idea of having LEDs in a model isn’t enough then the articulating arms with multiple hand options might be more interesting. Roche has designed 3 sets of hands for Octiman, cosmetic, hex bit, and crocodile clips. This means that Octiman is ready to assist if you need a small set of hands to help out.

No.8 - Light Up Octiman

This takkie wearing Octiman was designed by Coenraad Oelofse. 

The design process was more of a creative-thinking interpretation of Octi, whilst still keeping his original, already known form. Coenraad had this idea come to mind of Octi finding bits and pieces on earth to build his suite. His "fingers" are made of a star, flat and Allen key screwdriver set, which will also come handy with future fixes he needs to help the DIYElectronics Team and clients with. They gave him "lekker" shoes so he can be comfy, after all who doesn't like a nice pair of green vans. The joystick, I mean come on, it's fun, two joysticks for moving his arms and the other two for his legs, this is a smart Octi that can multitask. 

This was Coenraads first time designing a character for 3D Printing, and we hope this will be the start of a new journey for them after many years of CAD designing.

No.7 - Takkie Octiman

This friendly little storage Octiman was designed by Mujtaba Dien. 

This 2-part model provides a bunch of storage which is something most Makers need. In order to maximise the functionality Octiman’s head can be removed to access a secret little storage compartment in his suit. The result is a fun little set of storage containers that highlight Mujtaba’s ability to utilise space in a visually appealing way.

No.6 - Multi-Storage Octiman

This futuristic Octiman with diorama was designed by Malcolm Buys. 

Featuring both Octiman and elements from the DIYElectronics Community badges this model certainly has an outer space feel to it. Octiman is striding across some rough terrain with arms outstretched and ready to help. His suit is done in a similar style to the original but features some futuristic elements that help make it unique. The visor has been opened up so that it can be printed with clear resin. The model is broken into key parts in order to minimise the need for supports. The result is a great showpiece for your desk or cabinet.

No.5 - Diorama Octiman 

This Octiman has his own tech suit and is designed by Ettienne Vorster. 

The general approach for making this version of Octiman was mainly inspired by the Hexagon shape of the DIYElectronics logo as well as giving the reference character an “upgrade” on the original suit. Hexagon shapes can be seen throughout the design and is a large part of the design for the tech suit which helps give it the stylized sci-fi appearance. This truly unique design was an interesting take on the competition.  

What makes this model even more impressive is that Ettienne doesn’t have a 3D Printer to test the designs on as this is one of the first model they have designed specifically for 3D Printing. We have tested the model and it is printable with supports.

No.4 - Techsuit Octiman

**Third place in the Octiman 3D Modelling Competition is the fun and functional Octiman model by Coenraad Eygelaar.** 

The creative concept behind this model is a helping hand style model that can be a fun little figurine or a functional assistant. The front set of arms are designed to hold either printed or steel alligator clips. Octiman can be removed from his suit and the spaced used to store tools if need be.

No.3 - Articulated Octiman

OCTIMAN ON A GOOD DAY.STL

**Second place in the Octiman 3D Modelling Competition is this cute little model from Hylton Rodel. **

An incredibly fun and simple model that really highlights Hylton’s creativity. It is hard not to fall in love with that little face and with the model being broken up into parts it is incredibly easy to print and paint. If you want an extra-large Octiman then you can also scale the parts up. 

The body will need supports due to the arms not touching the build plate. The other 2 parts do not require supports.

No.2 - Cute Octiman

**The overall winner of the Octiman 3D Modelling Competition. **
 
This adorable and super functional model was designed by DIY Community member Cheryl Allen. Not only did Cheryl want the model to be easy to print, fun, and recognisable but they went even further by making it functional. Inside Octiman there is not just space for one but multiple storage trays to hold various little electronic or 3D Printer bits and bobs. To make it easy to print it has been designed to print without supports and on any entry level printer such as the Ender 3 and the like. Rather than going crazy on the details the focus of the model is simplicity so that even beginners can have their own Octiman.  

His body and legs are printed as a single print and are the largest print of the lot. The legs and arms are print-in-place and flexi. The arms slot into the body. No supports are required for any of the parts. 

His hands, feet, helmet, head, eyes, and pupils are also printed separately, and friction fit. 

Additionally, they designed a fun coaster as an add on just because you always need to fuel up while working on the printers or designs.
