We usually create practical designs, but we thought we'd mix it up a bit with an 'impractical' project that we've really enjoyed creating. If you like your doughnuts to be over-engineered, then this design is for you!

Created purely for fun, this design is not highly performant. However, if you love doughnuts, you'll hopefully appreciate the customizability of this doughnut design.

This design can be printed on a single-extruder 3D printer, but it also supports part splitting for multi-color printing on single-extruder or multi-extruder printers.

This design is completely free and shared under a permissive license. Your support is hugely appreciated.

OpenSCAD Customizer Options

We recommend you use OpenSCAD to customize this design.

This design has the following Customizer options:

General
  • Part - Which part(s) should be included in the render?
  • Flatten_Bottom_Percent - How much to flatten the bottom
Doughnut
  • Doughnut_Inner_Diameter - Inside diameter of the doughnut
  • Doughnut_Outer_Diameter - Outside diameter of the doughnut
Icing
  • Add_Icing - Add icing to the doughnut
  • Icing_Thickness - The thickness of the icing
  • Icing_Swoops - The number of swoops in the icing
  • Icing_Drippiness - The drippiness of the icing
Sprinkles
  • Add_Sprinkles - Add sprinkles to the doughnut
  • Sprinkle_Type - The type of sprinkles
  • Sprinkle_Distribution - How to place the sprinkles
  • Sprinkle_Diameter - The diameter of the sprinkles
  • Sprinkle_Length - The length of the sprinkles (Long Sprinkles only)
  • Number_of_Sprinkles - The number of the sprinkles
Teeth
  • Mouth_Width - The base width of the mouth
  • Number_of_Teeth - The number of teeth in the mouth
  • Teeth_Shape_Ratio - How flat or round the teeth should be
  • Teeth_Smoothing - The amount of smoothing applied to the teeth
  • Teeth_Bite_Percent - The amount of bite as percentage of mouth radius
  • Teeth_Position_Rotation - The position of the teeth
Preview
  • Show_Unselected_Parts_In_Preview - Whether to show unselected parts in preview mode
  • Show_Teeth_In_Preview - Whether to show the teeth in preview mode
Design and Performance Considerations

To improve performance, previews are generated with a low polygon count. Your exported design (STL) will have a higher polygon count and may take several minutes to render, depending on your system specification and chosen customizer options.

The default samples may not be easily printable without a raft and/or supports, however, we've provided a number of customizer options that will help you minimize the need for rafts or supports. In particular you can use the Flatten_Bottom_Percent option, but you can also adjust settings such as Icing_Thickness to reduce the need for supports.

If you'd like a multi-coloured print but you do not have a multi-extruder 3D printer, consider printing the 'Doughnut' part and 'Icing' (or 'Icing with Sprinkles') separately and joining them with a few spots of glue.

Material

This design is perfect for printing in many filaments, including PLA, PETG and ABS.

Versions
  • 1.0 (8 Apr 2022) - Initial version
Printing

Recommended slicer settings:

  • Resolution: 0.1mm - 0.2mm
  • Infill: ~20% or higher if you need extra durability.
  • Supports: Probably for most designs.
  • Rafts: Not required, unless you use a low Flatten_Bottom_Percent value or experience adhesion issues.
