The character first gained popularity in the early 1980s through a stage show called "The Pee-wee Herman Show," which was developed by Paul Reubens and premiered in 1980. The show's success led to a feature film called "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," directed by Tim Burton and released in 1985. The film was a critical and commercial success and further established Pee-wee Herman as a pop culture icon. RIP
