Deep in the snow-choked mountains north of Frostvale, when the moonlight glows blue and the wind howls like a lonely flute, locals whisper about a creature with fur as white as a blizzard and eyes that shimmer like frozen lakes.

They call him Nibbles.

No one remembers exactly how he got his name — though most say it started with the old baker, Hilda Snowcap, who once caught him “nibbling” on her entire week’s supply of peppermint fudge. (To his credit, he left a snowball in its place — payment, perhaps, or a warning.)

But Nibbles isn’t your typical monster. He’s more… complicated.

When winter storms roll in and travelers lose their way, it’s said you can spot his hulking shape in the distance — a silent guardian guiding them toward safety. Other nights, you’ll hear his heavy footsteps circling Frostvale’s edge, stealing wreaths, snowmen, and the occasional glowing Christmas bulb to decorate his icy den.

Some say he’s lonely. Others say he’s just hungry.

Whatever the truth, every year when the first snow falls, the children of Frostvale leave out cups of hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies — just in case Nibbles wanders by. Because while he may look fierce and fearsome, everyone knows one simple truth:

He only bites when you take the last marshmallow.
