Print our latest tool designed to calibrate different filaments to work with lower tolerance, poseable Flexi models. This tool should work with any filament and printer combination. While it is designed specifically for our models it is made to be as accurate as possible for general printing.

If your Flexi models are fusing together, feel too loose, or it seems like small gaps are being fused, you likely need to adjust your Flow Rate for your filament. 

Every filament prints differently, so we highly recommend doing tests before printing any larger objects or time consuming multi-color prints.

This number is usually set between 0.95-1.00 (0.80-1.15 at most). 

Print this small tester before your first adjustment and reprint for every adjustment after. After your first test print, follow the guide below and make adjustments of plus or minus 0.05-0.10 depending on if it’s too tight or too loose. Afterwards, you can fine-tune with increments of +/- 0.01 if you feel it’s needed. 

If the #1 slider is fused while #2 & #3 move freely (or after easily breaking them free) and the test joint bends, your settings should be about perfect. 

While Flow Calibration is the most common reason for fused joints, things like temperature, scale, design, etc., can also cause a print to fuse. Be sure to check your layers in the slicer for any printing paths that fuse joints due to a small scale.

There are more accurate Flow Rate tools that can be found online, but they require calipers and a bit of math. We like this one as an alternative: 3dprintbeginner.com/flow-rate-calibration


Settings:

We recommend using the same settings you would use for you models.

If you are just testing in general, 0.2 mm layers with 3 walls would be a great starting point.

Wuzzz up 😛 it's Kajun! Looking for the cutest, realistically proportioned jumping spider that fully articulates and can be easily customized? Look no further! This is my Flexi Jumping Spooder, inspired by one of my own pet spiders, Sabrina. 

Cliff and I put so much time, research, and refining into this design to get it just right and to make it printable for everyone, regardless of machine, filament type, and scale! We wanted this model to be both cute and fully articulating. This required us to use multiple software to get the look and functionality we wanted. Sabrina's head and body was modeled in Blender, while Sabrina's legs and abdominal undercarriage were made in Fusion 360 for a totally articulating model that prints in place & HAS NO SUPPORTS. (But we recommend using primitive discs on the toebeans for extra adhesion!) 😉🕷

Design & Print Details:

I modeled this spood after Bold and Regal Jumping Spiders with some abstract details to make them cartoonish and fun. They can be customized to look however you want with some basic painting! We painted some of ours in the Bambu slicer for a more detailed look. These are also fun to hand paint! -My personal favorite pastime is painting spoods.

Spinneret spool and attachment clip holes have been added for mounting and wearing as accessories, like you see me rocking my spood in my hair) 🤘🏼🕷

Print Settings:

Some filaments like Silk PLA and PLA + can have a higher flow ratio which leads to tighter joints. You can select from our size options or scale it yourself. We don't rec scaling below 60% unless using a smaller (.2mm) nozzle. Use our Flow Calibration tool if you have issues with the joints fusing or they seem too loose or weak. 

These files print in place with no supports needed. Tested on a variety of filaments including PLA, Matte PLA and Silk.

Our settings:

100% scale or more.

0.12 to 0.20mm Layer height

3 walls minimum, 4 recommended

15% infill Gyroid or similar. Avoid Grid infill. 

Variable layer height if you have the time

Avoid fuzzy skin as it can weaken non fuzzy areas. At least test first.

Instead of a brim, use primitive discs if needed at the ends of legs or small parts, which can be easily cut off later

**Be aware that different types of filaments shrink and expand and that can affect the quality and flexibility of the print. Silk is known for expanding.
