**After a ton of planning and coordination, we are ready to launch our first FAN ART model painting competition! (Yay!)**

**But first, we would like to give a special thanks to you,** as, after all, thanks to your fantastic fellowship and support, and that of the other members of this wonderful community, this printing obsession is possible. So, **THANK YOU!!!**

**Now, let us explain what the FAN ART category is about:**
This category includes anything related to **characters from movies, anime, series, video games, comics, etc.**
For example, it includes Mario Bros, Pokemon, Evangelion, Sonic the Hedgehog, Overwatch, League of Legends, and anything **else you can find on [Printed Obessesion’s page on Thangs 3D!](https://thangs.com/designer/printedobsession)**

So, get your paints & painting station prepped, calibrate your 3D printer, warm your painting hand, and (most importantly) **choose your favorite Printed Obsession FAN ART models.**

**General Rules:**
- You can paint and submit any of [Printed Obsession’s models found on Thangs 3D.](https://thangs.com/designer/printedobsession)
- Minis must be printed at a maximum of 120% of its original size (20% increase) or less.
- All models - obviously - must be painted by yourself; otherwise, you will be disqualified.
- You can submit multiple entries to the contest—as many as you can paint.
- You are allowed to make busts out of models, but they can’t be modified or kitbashed either digitally or physically in any other way.
- Bases/dioramas can be customized but won't be decisive to win.
You can't include content from other Patreons or creators (only by yourself or PO).
- Photos can't be edited by any kind of software or be post-processed.
- You can do minor tweaks like saturation, levels, etc., to convert the .raw format file.
- You can't overpaint or edit certain parts of the picture to fix mistakes.

**Submission Requirements**
Submitted Pictures Specification Requirements
- The final photos must be attached to the email in .jpg (jpeg), max size: 2 MB.
- Photo quality counts, so make sure to capture your minis’ “good side”.
- Send at least 3 photos from different angles.
- We recommend using gray background to facilitate the evaluation.
- Low-quality photos will make evaluation very difficult, so deficient-quality images or those that don't meet the requirements will not be evaluated.

Gridfinity TS100 soldering iron holder

Holds the TS100 and three tips vertically.

The “Complex Barrel Cam Shape Drawing Machine” is an advanced project that demonstrates the mechanical potential of barrel cams to encode and generate complex movements. Included here are files to make barrel cams for a circle, square, infinity sign and star.

The barrel cams are designed by plotting shapes from an xy plane onto a cylinder. Movement in the x direction is plotted helically along the length of the cylinder. Movement in the y direction is plotted along the radius of the sphere. When the cylinder is rotated, the follower and piston reproduce the shape back onto the xy plane.

Here are the parts you will need to print:

Print one of each “Base,” Crank,” and “Crank Connector.” These are all straight forward prints.

The “Print Surface Stand” is optional. It raises the printing surface bringing the pen closer to the paper and reduces the amount of error caused by a wiggly pen. 

Print one or both of the “Followers.” The “Barrel Cam Infinity” requires the longer “Follower 40mm,” all the others use “Follower 35mm.” Use a small file to remove any imperfections around the ball, but try not to reduce the diameter of the actual ball or it may slip out of the barrel cam track during use.

Print one “Pen Holder.” Use one small screw to secure the “Pen Holder” on to the “Follower,” Use a second small screw to hold the pen in place.

The hardest print in this project is the “Slider.” The slider is actually two separate objects printed in place. The reason for designing these together is that the tolerance and fit must be so precise that it cannot be reliable reproduced by gluing pieces together or other methods of connecting. When you print this piece, even though the two objects aren’t touching you will likely get some small adhesions that hold the pieces together then you remove it from the buildplate. Hold the piece on its end off the side of a table, place a piece of wood or metal on the top of the center piece, and give a few sharp taps with a hammer. The piece will come loose, but you will need move it back and forth forcefully a few times to smooth out the surfaces. The piece should move freely and easily.

Print out the “Barrel Cams” that you would like. The objects are positioned optimally in the files, but you will need to use supports. “Tree Supports” in Cura work well.

Add a thin layer of Vaseline to surfaces that slide against each other and assemble the pieces. 

Slide the “Slider” mechanism onto the “Base” first. 

Next, insert the “Follower” into the groove of one of the “Barrel Cams.” You will notice that there are two flat surfaces on the ball of the follower that allow the ball to insert into the groove in one direction, but lock into place with a 90 degree turn. Turn the follower 90 degrees to lock it into the barrel cam and then insert through the square hole in the slider.

Spread the uprights on the base and snap the barrel cam axle into the holes. 

Assemble the “Crank” and “Crank Connector” using a bit of glue to hold it tight, then press fit the other end of the “Crank Connector” into the square hole of the “Barrel Cam.”

You will need to use a pen that has minimal friction against the surface of the paper. An “Ultra Fine Point Sharpie” works well.

This sculpture is part of a series of three sculptures derived from the gyroid triopoly periodic minimal surface. Cube edges are one and a half unit cells with a length of approximately 90mm.

Files are provided plain and with custom supports. Be aware that the custom supports may or may not be optimized for your particular printer, slicer and materials.

Gyroid Sculpture #1: A single gyroid surface in Voronoi pattern. Voronoi structures are approximately 3mm in diameter. 

Gyroid Sculpture #2: Two offset gyroid surfaces: one solid, the other in Voronoi pattern. Voronoi structures are approximately 3mm in diameter. Mathematically, these are separate surfaces that weave around each other but do not touch. In this model there are small bridges hidden within the structures that connect the two surfaces together for structural purposes. If desired, the surface shells can be separated for dual colour printing.

Gyroid Sculpture #3: Two solid offset gyroid surfaces connect with randomly place “wormholes.” The wormhole openings are approximately 7.5mm in diameter.
