Wall Planter with Sliding Dovetail - The Poppy

I got lots of requests for a version of this planter that was renter friendly so this is what I came up with!

It attaches to the wall using a medium 3M Command Strip and a sliding dovetail. There's a screw mounted sliding dovetail in the files as well.

Another huge improvement - I ditched the threads on the drip tray and went a twist lock design, similar to the way reusable filament spools lock together. This method will hold up better over time, is more secure, and doesn't leave any gaps between the drip tray and the pot.

I've included a 4.5 inch version as well and will be adding a 6.5 inch size soon. Note that the only the 2.75 inch size includes that 3M Command Strip mount.

The screw mounts were designed to mount to the wall using #10-12 x 1-1/4 in screws with plastic anchors. These can be found at any hardware store or online.

Hi, did you ever create the 6.5 inch version? I currently have 8 of the 4.5inch planters on my wall, but the plants are outgrowing their containers and I'd like to be able to continue using your design.

Any tips regarding the tolerance ? The bottom part that screws in is really loose .

Are all the dovetails universal with the rail system? :)

Well, this is my first print after a benchy... pretty much the entire reason why I bought my printer! It's estimating just over 1 day to print the stand alone size 4 pot and tray :) I will share the results when it's done! So far it's beautiful! I read the first comment from Maxelman and LoftedGood's response about gyroid infill, so I incorporated that into my print too. I'm printing grey PETG, we'll see what happens.

Hi How did you attached command strip wall to the planter glued or in software? thanks Adam

Is it possible to have a universal Mounting Wall? like one that can be use with Medium and Large Command Strips, but also that have wholes so we can mount screw it! it will simplify a lot from the printing workflows, inventory, prevent errors from clients selecting the incorrect mount, and also the customer experience at the moment of selecting has a level of anxiety that can lead the customer don't perform the buy.

Working on this! Just trying to figure out a way to retro fit it so I don’t have to update every wall planter, just the mounts. I’ll hopefully release this soon!

Ive noticed when i print this model, i get a small buldge on the outter wall right when the flat layer starts. any advice on how to mitigate this because i dont see it present in your print

You might trying using gyroid infill and adding more walls. I get it on my prints sometimes depending on the filament. It’s a common problem in 3D printing. It happens because that layer takes a lot longer since it’s the “top” of the bottom base. You could also try slowing down the speed for outer walls.

Images 5, 6, and 7 appear to be of an unrelated lamp - not this model.

What do you recommend for supports? Any other print suggestions for infill or walls?

All of the wall mount STLs are oriented vertically - was that intended as a printing suggestion?

Thanks!

Hey! No supports are needed. I print these using 2 walls and a 15% grid infill. If you get a line on the outside where the bottom of the inside of the pot is, you Might get better results using a gyroid infill and possibly adding more walls.

All mounts should be oriented flat with the sliding dovetail facing up.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! Maybe update the model pages with that info - I printed two of these with stubborn supports already.
