A macropad is a programmable keyboard with just a few switches.

This case design holds 5 standard keyboard switches (14mm) and has room for a micro controller board with a 1.2mm thick PCB and a USB-C port (like the SEEED XIAO RP2040) which works great.

Created this basic macropad in tinkercad.
