Amtrak Metroliner for O Gauge
🗽 3D Printable O Gauge Amtrak Metroliner Train Dear friends of model railroading and 3D printing,
I'm excited to present my newest project: a 3D printable O Gauge model of the legendary Amtrak Metroliner! This detailed model is fully functional, remotely controllable via an ESP32 and your smartphone, and designed to run on standard 32mm O Gauge tracks. It’s also compatible with the OS Railway system developed by [depronized].
Bring a piece of American high-speed rail history to your layout — a tribute to one of the most iconic and ambitious trains of the 20th century.
🚇 About the Amtrak Metroliner The Amtrak Metroliner was a groundbreaking high-speed train service introduced in 1969 as a joint venture between Penn Central and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Developed by the Budd Company, the Metroliner EMUs were designed to offer rapid service between New York City and Washington, D.C., reaching speeds of up to 125 mph (201 km/h) — a remarkable feat for its time.
The Metroliner trains symbolized a bold new vision for American passenger rail, combining sleek stainless steel design with cutting-edge technology. Though phased out by the early 2000s in favor of Acela Express service, the Metroliner left a lasting legacy as America’s first successful attempt at modern high-speed rail.
Now, you can keep their legacy alive on your own tracks!
