I spent the last few days playing around with displacement maps of Barovia going through several iterations. I used some old code I wrote for a python bot to detect the X icon in mobile phone games to create a greyscale version of the official Map of Barovia and then used that as a template to trace our sections in Pixelmator and then displacing a plane. I've included v1 and v2 of the map - v1 was fully hand traced and v2 was partially hand traced and partially processed via my code - I think it turned out a bit better. I've also included the displacement maps in case you want to try it out yourself. I've included the road and waterways as separate maps in case you want to add them in separately - for the water I made it a white on black image and then set the strength to a negative value and then set a max depth so it flattened out at the bottom.

Overall this was a fun exercise and it turned out pretty nice so I might try making some more of these.

I don't think that these maps are super practical to print since you either need to make them huge (and split into parts) or smaller and resin print them. If I get around to printing them I'll update the files and add print files. If you want to print these let me know and I'll work with you to optimize as needed. We could add openlock clips to attach them together or figure out some kind of jigsaw system to hide the seams in the river or something - lmk what you wanna do.

Recently I launched a Kickstarter for my modular terrain set I'm calling "Modular Barovia Part 1". The idea is to build out a kit to support running the death house - this kit will extend the existing modular terrain parts that I've made making them even more flexible.
