Anubis - God of Mummification and Afterlife
Anubis is one of the most ancient and recognizable deities of the Egyptian pantheon, traditionally depicted as a man with the head of a black jackal or as a full canine. Often referred to as the god of mummification and the afterlife, he was believed to have invented the embalming process to preserve the body of Osiris, the first mummy. His iconic black color did not represent the natural fur of a jackal but symbolized the fertile soil of the Nile and the promise of rebirth. One of his most critical roles was presiding over the "Weighing of the Heart" ceremony, where he measured a deceased person's heart against the feather of Ma'at (truth) to determine their worthiness for the afterlife. Beyond judgment, Anubis served as a vigilant protector of tombs, guarding the dead against scavengers and malevolent forces.
